My First Trip Win - SiriusXM CELEBRITY FANTASY DRAFT SWEEPSTAKES

I received a call last night that I won the SiriusXM CELEBRITY FANTASY DRAFT SWEEPSTAKES ARV $2,500. A trip for 2 to NYC for 1 night including airfare, hotel and tickets to the event. I have been dying to win a trip (3.5 years sweeping) but after much debate over the fact that no transportation or meals were included, and NYC is so expensive, I declined. I had no idea what time I would arrive on day one, and I was told I would have to fly out right after the event ends at 2 pm, potentially leaving me with less than 24 hours total time there. To pay taxes on such a short trip, and roughly $500 out of pocket for cab fare, food, airport parking, etc. just didn't seem to make sense. The celebrities hosting the event were definitely D listers.

I also forfeit a $1,500 Kayak last month (it seems over valued and I had no use for it), so hopefully my next win will be bigger and more useful than my last two.

That's a bummer. Although I have won 3 trips and have never had meals included unless it was a cruise. We recently won a trip to NYC and used the subway, ate out of the amazing food trucks and didn't spend that much $$. We were also able to add on 1 night and pay out of pocket, always worth asking.

They did say I could stay longer out of my pocket, but my husband has to work so it would just be be an my 12 year old. Not sure how to get around on the subway since I have never been there. And hotels in Manhattan are so expensive.

Had to forfeit 2 trip myself so i know how it feels mostly was trying to win the lesser prize but my good luck was bad, luckly i was able to take the other two I won to daytona 500 and san diego

<----- Just want to win a trip ANYWHERE. Heck I would use a bike for transportation and eat at McDonalds while I am there. YEP just desperate for the word FREE trip. However, in the past I have won a trip to Vegas and New Orleans from a local radio station and was never responsible for the taxes, only for my food and ground transportation and gambling expenses, of course. :-)

I had a to forfeit a trip I won to a Texas football game. I won on a Wednesday and would have had to fly out that Friday - it was too short notice for us to get off of work in time. Such a great rush to win then a major bummer to respectfully decline! I DID redeem myself and win a trip to Portugal in October though - it was fab and everything was included except flight to Boston which was super cheap.

It is possible to stay in NYC without spending one's life savings. My husband and I just returned from a trip to New York City that I won from Shop Your Way Rewards. The sponsor paid for only two nights in a Manhattan hotel, but we made arrangements with the fulfillment service to fly us out a week after we arrived. This left us with five nights of hotel fees to pay, and we saved a ton of money by moving out of the pricey Manhattan hotel ($400 per night) and staying at a Howard Johnson Express Inn in the Bronx ($600 for five nights). We bought food at a nearby grocery and used the fridge and microwave in our room. Our total food expenditure for a week was less than a hundred bucks. Our total transportation expenditure (subways & AirTrain) was less than $50. So we got a week's vacation in one of the coolest places in the world for about $750. A plus: we were celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary. Yay!

Sorry it didn't work out for you, but I agree...a trip should be worth it (lots of relaxation and perks). Hope you have a good win soon. I'm still waiting on a trip win and hope that I get the relaxation and perks if and when it comes! :)
