Major problems with contest - we ended up winning!

Hello, I have been involved in the contest since the 15th of February where you post your trip/photos/advice etc and the most votes win. A 2nd trip popped up last week that started gaining major votes very quickly (too quickly). When she reached the #1 position, I knew I had to step it up...so I started posting the link on all social networking sites while friends/family/and supporters re posted the link to vote. We got a big lead, and got the #1 spot with 1,100+ votes. When we hit#1, a family member of the entrant previously in the #1 spot became irate and began posting messages in all caps on my trip profile that we were cheating and she was reporting us...etc. etc...

***Update***Long story short, we overcame all obstacles and won the contest! I won $500 to the Martha Stewart website. yay!

Re: Major problems with honeymoon contest - Any advice?

 Sorry for your disappointment, but this is exactly why I do not do voting contests. They can become very messy. this one seems to have gotten messier than most. Don't have any advise but there isn't a whole lot you can do as the sponsor can run the contest anyway they see fit. Just keep hanging in there getting your friends to vote. Best of luck to you!

Well yea I have advise...

If it clearly stated in the rules one vote per ip address per day, then I too see it as entering wrongfully.

It doesn't matter that there are family members that live in the same house and they all use 1 computer. That means you can only have 1 VOTE from that computer once a day....

Sorry this has happened to you...

Thank you for the advice...one thing that I may have forgotten to mention. In the terms and condition of the contest it states, "One vote per person/email address per day."

There is absolutely no mention of IP addresses. I know because I have read and reread the terms over as well as a few other people. Now that we know it is against the rules I've told everyone and no one is doing this anymore. The IP address stipulation was made by the contest customer service by email only, nothing came from the rules/terms. They also said that IP address was per router not computer...so it does not matter how many different computers/people are at your work or home, they all count as one. (this does not seem legal or right)

One thing I might add...after the whole IP address problem became known there was someone continuing to vote (150 times) the very next day...I'm wondering if it is sabotage. (everyone I asked had quit voting more than once by that point)

This was actually my very first contest/sweepstakes I've ever entered in my life. What a bad first experience. Guess I won't be doing this again, EVER! lol

Re: Major problems with honeymoon contest - Any advice?

Enter sweepstakes. It is fun to get surprises in the mail. Just avoid the voting contests. They are horribly run, cheating is rampant and, as you experienced, there is always someone running to the JA to complain if someone else is winning. Check out the sweeps directory here. You will find several thousand legitimate sweeps here to enter. With a little persistance and patience, you will be winning in no time. I'm sorry your first experience was negative. That type of experience is few and far between.

To give you an idea of how rewarding this hobby can be, check out our winners' circle.

Best of luck to you in your sweepstake contest. I hope you decide to stay and give sweeping a chance. :sunny:
