MAIL IN VS. ONLINE SWEEPS

Hi, I'm new at this, and I was wondering, How do they select a winner if you an enter by email or mail in a paper entry. What I mean is, how do they go about this procedure if you have some on paper ad some online.
 
When the envelope comes in, it gets assigned a number. The numbers are then entered into the system along with the on-line entries. Then they do a computer randomization. If a numbered envelope comes up as the winner, the envelope is pulled and opened to find out who the winner is.
