Latest eBay Scam?

Been getting a bunch of "new" eBay scam emails and wondering if this is happened to anyone else.

I know the typical ebay scam emails that make it look like someone has a question about something you are supposedly selling.

These changed recently and I think I know why but not 100% sure so thought I would see if similar thing happened to others...

Recently, I bid on an item for real on eBay. After bid was overbid by someone else, I moved on, not thinking about auction as I didn't want item for more. A day or so later, got an email that said bid was canceled. Apparently, seller closed auction early, canceling all bids.

As the seller, they get to see your name/email address and obviously see your eBay id.

Since that auction was canceled, the ebay scam emails have included both my name and eBay id. Its like they had a hijacked user's account on eBay as it wasn't a new user, created a bunch of auctions to capture account info, and then used that account info to make the eBay scam emails look more convincing.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or see this for themselves?

I had to read your post twice before I got it. Wow, I hate to hear that. I have never had anything but good luck on ebay. It's kinda funny though because I bid on an auction the other night and then the seller contacted me via email. This morning I got an email saying that the auction had been shut down by ebay. Hmmmmmmmm, don't think I will be buying anything from him. I am just not smart enough to figure out the many many ways you can get screwed over on the internet. I just hope that people are honest and act like they should. Too bad that's not the way it always is!

I'm glad I read your email. I have gotten three messages from people saying that they are waiting for me to ship their laptops and cameras and I have never had anything listed for sale on ebay. I tried to contact ebay by email and got nowhere with them. I have a phone number for ebay so I'm going to go that route and see if I can get the issue taken care of that way. I don't like getting messages from people saying that they are going to report me if I don't ship something and I don't even know anything about it. :nono:
Something else that happened to me on ebay was that I bid on an item and I decided that I wasn't going to pay more than $34.00 on it. I kept getting outbid by the same bidder and when I got outbid the last time and stopped bidding, I though I had lost the item. All of a sudden, I get an email from the original seller saying that they are giving me a second chance at the item for the last price that I bid. I jumped on it but I really think it was the seller trying to bid the item up to a certain amount. I guess that happens on ebay but I think it's kind of dishonest. It's a shame when dishonest people ruin something good for other people. :cussing:

Calling eBay for the problem you mention is a waste. What are you expecting them to do about people sending you spam?

With the second issue, eBay regularly tells people to avoid that exact situation.

Wow. That's interesting. I noted on ebay that there were many, many mp3 listed from Asia for .01 with free shipping. How could anyone sell anything that has to be shipped to you for a penny with free shipping? I'm guessing now it is some kind of phishing scheme...I can't believe ebay allows it because there are hundreds of them.

:sunny: If I don't have the email in my email messages at Ebay then I know it is a scam. Also scam emails that you receive in your regular email account can be forwarded to Ebay at [email protected]. I always get a reply from them.
