:cussing: I've noticed the price increases that KFC has implemented in it's chicken prices. Last Fall, the menu boards changed to reflect these increases in price. No longer on the menu were the 24 and 28-piece (and higher) chicken buckets and such...and their prices. I thought perhaps KFC was removing these menu prices because the new price increases now seemed expensive, especially during a recession.
However, two nights ago, I swung into the local KFC drive-thru lane for some of my favorite yardbird. The menu board had been completely remodeled...new photos of chicken items, along with new prices! OMG... :cussing: A new 20-piece chicken-only and a 20-piece chicken meal price was posted. The meal cost $42 dollars and change!!! For 20 pieces of chicken. Oh, and something else new? Along with those 20 pieces of chicken came (5) sides. Five...count 'em. So, the only thing I can think is that the price of KFC chicken has risen so high that not only has it become a real expense, but KFC is offering their bulk-inducing side items to try to offset or reduce the shock of the new prices.
Now, this is a sad day for me.
I love KFC. If there is chicken to be purchased from a fast-food joint, I always have KFC at the top of my list of places to eat. Now however, due to the exorbitant price increases at KFC, I can no longer justify the expense in eating there...so I will no longer spend money at KFC. I stand on principle here. If anything, with a deepening recession going on in the United States (and globally), one would think that prices would stablize a bit or even drop at fast-food places. If food places raise their prices too high, the customers will stop buying. IF that happens, a business could be forced to shut their doors.
I am composing a letter to KFC corporate headquarters to voice my dismay, my concern, and my sadness at having to turn my back on KFC.
I will take my business to the other two main fast-food chicken places in town -- Popeye's and Church's. Church's, of course, is the least expensive...with some really good prices. I'd bet that these fried-chicken outlets all get their chicken from the same chicken processing companies (Tyson, Pilgrims Pride, Sanderson Farms, etc.). So I don't understand where KFC gets off at raising their prices so high, when these other chicken places are not raising theirs hardly any. :cussing: Oh, the humanity!
