KFC in too expensive now...!

:cussing: I've noticed the price increases that KFC has implemented in it's chicken prices. Last Fall, the menu boards changed to reflect these increases in price. No longer on the menu were the 24 and 28-piece (and higher) chicken buckets and such...and their prices. I thought perhaps KFC was removing these menu prices because the new price increases now seemed expensive, especially during a recession.

However, two nights ago, I swung into the local KFC drive-thru lane for some of my favorite yardbird. The menu board had been completely remodeled...new photos of chicken items, along with new prices! OMG... :cussing: A new 20-piece chicken-only and a 20-piece chicken meal price was posted. The meal cost $42 dollars and change!!! For 20 pieces of chicken. Oh, and something else new? Along with those 20 pieces of chicken came (5) sides. Five...count 'em. So, the only thing I can think is that the price of KFC chicken has risen so high that not only has it become a real expense, but KFC is offering their bulk-inducing side items to try to offset or reduce the shock of the new prices.

Now, this is a sad day for me. I love KFC. If there is chicken to be purchased from a fast-food joint, I always have KFC at the top of my list of places to eat. Now however, due to the exorbitant price increases at KFC, I can no longer justify the expense in eating there...so I will no longer spend money at KFC. I stand on principle here. If anything, with a deepening recession going on in the United States (and globally), one would think that prices would stablize a bit or even drop at fast-food places. If food places raise their prices too high, the customers will stop buying. IF that happens, a business could be forced to shut their doors.

I am composing a letter to KFC corporate headquarters to voice my dismay, my concern, and my sadness at having to turn my back on KFC.

I will take my business to the other two main fast-food chicken places in town -- Popeye's and Church's. Church's, of course, is the least expensive...with some really good prices. I'd bet that these fried-chicken outlets all get their chicken from the same chicken processing companies (Tyson, Pilgrims Pride, Sanderson Farms, etc.). So I don't understand where KFC gets off at raising their prices so high, when these other chicken places are not raising theirs hardly any. :cussing: Oh, the humanity!

It is funny ~ I just noticed the opposite at ours. Where our other local restaurants have raised prices our KFC has stayed the same and I find coupons all the time. We went to Sonic the other night to eat and it cost the 4 of us $32...We could have eaten at Cracker Barrel for not more than that. I went to KFC one day the same week(the week without power) and it was $27 and we had food left over and I order 2 extra breasts. Even at McDonalds it is costing us over $20 to eat anymore.

I really like our local Pantry chicken and Kroger chicken also. We have them more often than KFC. I am a chicken junkie also. If I fix it at home it is always baked and skinless and boneless ~ but if we go out, it is fried...and bad for me

:sunny: Good Grief! That is just plain highway robbery. I can go down to the local seafood restaurant in the harbor and get 2 lobster dinners with all the works for $44. I hope KFC headquarters sends you lots of good coupons sticks!

I also use to go to KFC, and the price increases have ran me off, plus if you do some checking at PETA, they have a few problems with cruelty to animals. So between that and now the prices, I no longer go there, and won't go back even if they so graciously lower their prices. It is crazy, we all are going to feel the hurt. I keep track of prices at the grocery store and what 6 months ago cost $46.80 now cost $87.75. For the same items, I am talking about stables here, not fancy, or junk food. I am truly worried where it is going to end and if we will be able to buy food in the near future.

It is sad, really. We watched the price of our food triple in the last year. We have really made a conscience effort to use coupons and check fliers and sales like crazy ~ we have had to. It is bad when your $100 goes up to $300...that is just unacceptable for us!

Nothing has changed at ours. We also have items added onto our value menu, but I never saw 24/28-piece meals. We also use coupons.

I wish we had a "Popeye's" instead of "Kentucy Fried Chicken". Popeye's puts KFC to shame.

I like popeyes also. Must be that cajun in me.

The reason KFC costs more in Arkansas is that its so hard getting the shell off the...chickens....

Nah! I stick with their mild recipe, because I'm not a hot and spicy person. Their chicken is phenomenal.

I picked up a bunch on the way home Thursday after picking up my boys, and everyone was just oohing and aahing. You don't even want to touch KFC chicken after that.

IMO KFC has always been expensive. Popeyes too. why would I want to pay 15 bucks for 8 pieces of chicken when I can buy a whole chicken for 3 bucks and cook it myself. now I will buy KFC cole slaw and popeyes cajun rice but thats about it.

Fast food is expensive in general, but it's kind of hard to fry up chicken in the van!

we do mickey D's on thursday for the kids. My husband and I dont usually get anything though. my youngest son really looks forward to thursday  its not too bad. around 10.00 for all of them

We're on the road often with vacation, weekenders, day trips, and picking up my boys (165 miles each way), so we have no choice but to eat on the road. We usually stick to the dollar menus and coupons from the Entertainment book and Sunday fliers. We never order anything full price and rarely any value meals. We get our sodas from convenience stores when we gas up. They're a heck of a lot cheaper than the fast food restaurants. I also check the windows for any specials too, because sometimes you won't see any mention of it inside or in the drive-thru.

Careful, red! :nono: We Arkies don't take kindly to having our yard birds mocked. Besides, you got it all wrong...everyone knows that Arkansas chickens look like this:

I love KFC
unfortunately it does not love me.
I just can't do fried food.
but it is yummy.

Another reason why I'm no longer crazy for KFC after discovering Popeye's years ago, KFC has far less meat on their pieces than Popeye's but still costs about the same. I also hate instant mashed potatoes, and their macaroni and cheese is horrid! I do like the grilled chicken Twisters though!

I've never eaten at a Popeye's. We don't have one close to us. I think the closest one is in Evansville, but when we go there we like to go to Cracker Barrel or somewhere like that. We are planning on going this weekend to replace Caitlyn's tv that the ice storm ate...
