Hello fellow sweepstakers,
I was reading that all that is needed for most theives to steal your identity is your name, birthdate & social security number. Many sweepstakes we enter beside entering our names, they also ask for our birthdate. That is giving thieves two thirds of your ID.

I think that is wrong. We shouldn't have to give our birthdate.

Sweeps companies should just ask; "Are you over 18?" and check off that you are.
If you win, then you should provide your actual birthdate to them, not before.

I never worry about giving my birthdate but I agree just checking over 18 or 21 would be easier. It's so easy to find your birthdate online at least in Texas where all you have to do is go to Ancestry.com and I'm sure it is probably available for other states. Not likely a thief would go to that trouble. As far as social security numbers go they usually only ask for them if it's a big win. I don't think some people realize what is online.
I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Yes, with a big win that is when they ask for your social security.
But when it comes to online security, you can never be safe enough.
Thieves are ruthless to steal people's info.
