They cannot be used on sale items. I won $25 off and I had the same problem at first. Find something that's not on sale and it should work. However, keep in mind it doesn't cover shipping, and their shipping is $9.95 if I recall correctly. I ended up not using mine (yet). I probably won't unless I find something I really want.
