I think I may have goofed

I got an e-mail this week saying I had won a Camry from Free Lotto. Now, I've played Free Lotto a few, a very few, times. So I decided the e-mail was a fake. I checked all the links in the e-mail and they seemed to lead to a legitimate company that handles vehicle transfers. But, in spite of no mention of Africa or the UK, or misspellings, I still didn't trust the e-mail and decided to delete it. I figured if I truly did win, they would try to contact me again. I also searched SA to see if there was any recent discussions about Free Lotto and there doesn't seem to be.

It's been nagging me ever since. So, did I goof on this one?

I googled it and found alot about it being a scam. Here is the best advice I found:

I hate to be the one to inform you, but you will not receive the cash prize promised in the letter. This is a scam. FreeLotto.com is a legitimate lottery site run out of the UK and they have samples of the fraudulent letters being sent out under their name.

A legitimate lottery will NEVER ask you to pay money or give out credit card information in order to receive your winnings.

Gosh I am sorry!

Part of the reason I am wondering if I goofed is that they DID NOT ask for money. I know that if you truly win something, you don't have to pay anything (except those charges for notarized affidavits that are sometimes required). Nope, they didn't ask for money in any way, shape, or form.

You did not goof -- I used to play all the time and when I quit playing they started sending me e-mails saying that I won a car or money or something else - i just had to be a member to win - the 1st time I fell for it and signed back up -- NEVER received that prize also I was p_____sd at them for the $1 here or there that I would win playing lottery I would either never receive or I would get a letter from them asking if I wanted to donate that $1 to something else - I then quit again and forwarded all of their emails to my spam folder

Scam Scam.I get so tired of the crazy emails. You alway's get your hope's up when you see in the subject line YOU HAVE WON.I get several a week on average you have wont XXXXX Euro or something.Or those stupid thing's saying you have fund's to be transferred for a large amount minus their commission etc.Got some claiming to be FBI too lol.I know what I play i don't do the lotto's much anymore I do the Freelotto some.Anything asking for money up front or you bank acct. info or ssn is a SCAM.About the only time you would have to put money up front is if you won some tangile property like a car, house, boat, etc. These require delaer and title or closing cost and sales tax.You will get an AFFY and a 1099 if you win any cash prize so don't give out any personal financial info to any of the scam one's.

i myself have played freelotto for many years, i've never won more than 1.00 at a time, but over time i'd say i've on at least 25.00 from them. So it up to you to decide if you want to keep playing for that small chance at a big win, i just recommend that if you do play, that you check the results everyday.
