   I cant believe it. I think I left it in the buggy last night at the store. Of course no one turned it in. I would and have two times when I found a wallet and a purse. Its amazing to me. I called and cancelled my bank card. What bothers me most is the fact that my kids SS cards were in my wallet. I dont want someone stealing their identity or something. My husband keeps telling me to calm down. I was wishing all kinds of evil on whoever has it. not death or anything but baldness and pimple breakouts, etc.... some I cant say but ya get the jist. What is wrong with people. would it have killed them to walk it into the store. noooooo!!! I went up to the store its not there and that was the only place I went last night. Now I have to get new SS#'s and a driver license not to mention the health ins cards, new bank card. Pictures of the kids and I dont even know what else was in there. Funny thing is I cant get a SS card without a id. duh! its in the wallet. how bout a license. well, I need proof of who I am for that too. yep! its in the wallet. I cant believe Im so stupid to leave it behind. I feel sick to my stomach over this.

Oh my I'm so sorry for your loss. It's such aggravation when you lose your wallet and everything is in the wallet.

I learned a while back to take all our SS cards out of my wallet.

Some people have no morals to turn something in that doesn't belong to them. It's really sad the way people are becoming in this world.

Oh my gosh, I know you sick you feel! I have done that before. Thankfully, in all cases it has been returned.

But you could still get it back. Once my purse was stolen off the back of my chair in a restaurant in London ... and I had my Passport in it!! Thankfully, the thief only took the money (about 5 pounds... 10 dollars or so) and then discarded it in a subway train with my passport still in it! A kind soul found it and called the emergency contact number (a long distance call to my parents in the US ... of course they were FREAKING out). He mailed it to me, and I sent him a generous reward!

Since that time, I never keep my passport with me once I get to a destination. Just lock it up in a safe or other safe place.

Anyway, I hope someone finds a discarded wallet and you get it back with the important documents.

Maybe if you look up the SSA they can tell you what to do if a social security card is stolen?

I have found several things and have NEVER turned them in at the store. I know I will turn them back in, but I don't know what the person at the store will do. I hope you have one of those people also! Don't give up hope yet!! Hope it works out for you!! Let us know!

thanks guys.. Well im on hold with ss office now. going on 25 min now. tried dmv first. nope they cant do anything without a ss card. looked online and it looks like ss wont do anything without picture id. well ya know what!!!!!! Thats gonna be a problem. :cussing: are you freaking kidding me. wth am I supposed to do. I am fixing to scream into this phone. This is the stupid

We use to attend church that had directories with our names and pictures in them with our address and if you have a church directory like that maybe they would accept that as identification.

They make it so hard on legal residents of the USA to prove who they are to replace things that are stolen but illegals can get anything without having to prove anything. That's really sad in our country.

surely you can get new ss cards with a birth certificate?? isn't that the way we all got one in the first place?

good luck to you!

you would think so wouldnt ya. nope! birth certificate is used for proving citizenship only. not identity. I was told to take everything I can find with my name on it. marriage license, ins info, medical records. etc... And then it will be up to the person at the actual ss office if that is sufficient prove that I am who I say I am. My luck I will get a person who is having a really bad day and wants to be a big ol' butthead.

 I am so sorry to hear about your lost wallet. Have done it myself but thats no consolation. Will say a prayer to St. Anthony he finds lost items.

I would DEFINITELY turn in someone's lost item to the manager of the store because that's the first place the frantic person is going to look. If you really don't trust the store mangager, take it to the local police department so that they can phone the owner. How would you feel getting a call from some random person saying "I've got your wallet." Relieved until you think--hey I don't want to go meet a stranger somewhere and I'd prefer they didn't send all of my money and cards in the mail. Also, the owner now thinks the finder is probably expecting some kind of reward in return and feels compelled to compensate him/her.

I'm personally in favor of anonymous returns, whether to the managment or the police. If the finder does hope for compensation, he/she should still take the found item to the police...they may have a form to fill out that entitles the finder to any valuables that go unclaimed after a period of time.

My husband was a manager at a grocery store for years and I know how many workers he had to fire for stealing ~ I just don't trust them. I have called the people from the parking lot and the person asked me to turn it in at the desk, THEN and only then have I taken it in and given it to the person in the office and gotten their names. It is sad that you don't feel like you can trust anyone anymore!!

Since that time, I never keep my passport with me once I get to a destination. Just lock it up in a safe or other safe place.

Be careful, in some countries people (especially foreigners) are required to carry ID issued by the federal government (state drivers licenses DO NOT count). At the very least you should carry a photo copy of your passport (possibly laminated) and carry it literally on your person. They make passport holders for this purpose. You should however wear it under your clothes (it's uncomfortable trust me!) because otherwise you scream tourist and are a target for theft.

I was in rural Brazil when our bus was boarded by the military by the biggest guns I've ever seen in person. Everyone had to pull out their ID (most people were not tourists) and all men had to get off the bus and be searched. I didn't speak portuguese (other than "I don't speak portuguese" and "thank you") and was terrifed at the time. My passport was locked in a safe at our guides house but we all carried laminated copies and thankfully this was acceptable.

Any word on getting your stuff back, yet? I've been keeping fingers crossed that something will turn up within the week.

:wave:Hello I am so sorry for your loss and I know how you feel.I lost a $1,000.00 bracelet and no one turned it in.I lost it a a grocery store and I will never see it but I got to thinking we only have stuff borrowed for a little while and we don't own anything and it was nice while I had it and the one that didn't turn our stuff in will regret it someday and I would have gotten on the radio and announced finding something and found the person that owned it.Everyone is not honest and that is part of life but I am honest and I guess I expect everyone else to be honest but no cigars.I miss my bracelet but I feel sorry for the one that didn't turn it in.

I feel your pain. A similar thing happened to me years ago...and it was frustrating as crap! However, I believe that everything that happens to us is a learning experience. With that in mind, I managed to solve my problem. I would suggest that this time, when you re-apply for all your id (ssi cards, drivers license, bank cards, etc.), you request two of everything be sent to you. Then, store the extra sets of ids in a safe place at home. Now, the SSI office will balk and probably will not allow you to apply for two ssi cards. (Actually, you CAN get two "original" ssi cards; you will need to get the first card in the mail. Then, wait a couple of months and email the SSI Administration, telling them you need a duplicate card, as you have misplaced your original. You will receive a duplicate ssi card via postal mail. Ta da! Two "original ssi cards".) So, when you eventually receive your new ssi cards, immediately make copies of them, then only carry the copies in your purse, leaving the real cards safely at home.

I now keep an extra set of all my important cards/ids in a safe place at home. I am convinced that something like this will happen to me again (and I'm a guy...so it can happen to anyone). The next time though, I will be prepared. Good luck.

I Went to the ss office and had a huge envelope filled with papers, birth certificate, tax papers, marriage license, bank papers, bill's. you name it I took it. ya know the only thing they would use for verification? my insurance Id card. yep! they wouldnt even look at the other stuff. so, luckily I had some spare ins cards for me and the kids and the ss cards are on the way. When I get that I can get a license. and a state id. I have sooo learned my lesson. no more caring around ss cards. and I will have another form of picture Id. Atleast I learned something. The rest of the stuff in my wallet well thats just gone. I had a little key chain thing I had made 14 yrs ago. It had my name and my husbands as well as the date of our very first date in hearts. been in my wallet 14 yrs. That I will never get back. That was the worse thing to lose.
