The last two days have been unbelievable. first, got a call yesterday from my daughters school. she hurt her ankle playing softball. My daughter tells me when she was on the ground crying the gym teacher walked over to her and said you are alright. get up. would not let her go to the nurse. after gym her teacher lets her go. so she had to hop upstairs and then back down. her ankle was the size of a baseball. if the gym teacher had taken 5 seconds she would have seen it was swelling. got exray, no break. severe sprain. Doc said with a sprain like this it would have been better to actually break it. :smt009 this morning.woke up, had no power. call my sons school and ask if they are gunna be open. well, if we arent we will call. ok. So, I take him to school and my daughter to the doc. turn onto our street and their is my 10 yr old standing in the front yard. :smt013 They sent the kids home early. He doesnt have a key. And even if he did I dont like him home by himself. luckly, he was only here about 15-20 min. before I got home. What if I had been later. what would he have done. so, Im going be one the phone with both principals and they are not gunna like me when im done. sorry, I know this is long but I gotta vent, Im so upset with them right now. thanks for listening.

Sounds like justifiable venting to me. Our elementary school has a policy where they must reach a parent (or someone designated by the parent) by phone before they will release a child early. The phone chain is run by the PTA and parent volunteers. If your PTA is receptive, you may want to suggest setting up something similar. Your 10 year old sounds pretty level-headed, but I bet it would be a pretty scary situation for a kindergarten student. Hope you enjoy the long weekend with your family.

I feel your pain when it comes to schools and the issues that arrise. My solution may not be the best solution, but I've found that most of the time complaints and such fall on deaf ears. They are able to justify anything. When I'm in a situation as yours, I won't elaborate on them cause my fingers would fall off from all the typing, I hit them where it hurts, in the pocket book! Our kids are little dollar signs to the schools. If my children are treated unfairly, I take a few extended weekends. Maybe a Friday and Monday of keeping my kids home up to the limit of unexcused absences. You treat my kids unfairly, then YOU WILL NOT GET THE MONEY FOR THEIR BODIES BEING THERE! My boys are good students and I arrange for them to do their work at home so they don't fall behind. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about your experiences. I hope your daughter's ankle is doing better. Sprains that bad take time to heal. Make sure she follows the doctor's instructions.

Hope your day got better and that you have a wonderful weekend!
