How do u know when you receive a "real" sweepstakes notification?

Hi, all! I'm new to entering sweepstakes - only been doing it for about two months. Please help!

How do u know when you receive a winning confirmation from a sweepstakes? Lately I've been receiving some scam emails. Example, they say I've won a small kitchen appliance and that it's paid for and ready to be shipped. But of course, if u check it out more they want u to send $20.00 for S/H fees, but u still don't know what's in the package to be delivered. That, to me, is not winning a sweepstakes. So for u previous winners out there, what does a winning email look like? How do u know its real? Thank u for any information! Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

any time they are not specific and ask for money it is usually not a win :error: most wins you get an affidavit to fill out and is from a known sponsor

most wining emails will have the name of the sweep listed in the subject.. here are two I recieved recently that kinda looked like spam...

When you have being doing this for awhile you will get better and knowing what is spam and whats not. spam wining emails are very vague and sometimes will have spelling errors. or will be all in BOLD. good luck to ya. I feel like the most unlucky person I know. Have never won anything, ever.
But I figure if u don't have a line in the water then for sure you're not going to catch a fish. Right?

when you click on reply there are some that appear at the top, all you do is click on the one you want and it will place the code in your reply there is also this at the end of the smilies> [more] for more choices

peggyo18.....when one wins a sweepstakes and I can safely say with absolute happiness after 2 years my first big win came in the mail. I won a treadmill from Fitness magazine & I got an affadavit, 2 other forms from Fitness Magazine and Meredith Corporation.....that's official as it can get. Or

And as Amy mentioned if you keep at it you too will win, wishing you many sweep returns :sunny: :headbang:

Welcome to the wonderful world of sweeps....everyday is a surprise waiting to happen.

I've been sweeping for about 2-3 years. First prize was from Sundance. No email, just came home to a box sitting on my doorstep. A lot of sweeps will be this way. You'll just get a box or envelope in the mail . I've gotten gift cards and DVD's in my mail. The legit company's will just mail the prize to you no questions or money asked for.

Emails....I have a yahoo email address I use only for sweepstakes. Just yesterday I checked and I had an email from Hollywood.com saying I had won an I Am Legend package. They said they needed me to reply by Jan 11 and than they would be sending an affy (my first one!). Most of your legit winning emails will say who they are with (you can always double check the expired list here on SA to see if you remember entering the contest) and how and who to contact. I had one from Cookie Magazine where I had to call a lady to claim my prize. The only thing they did ask for was a W-4 form to be filled out for tax purposes. I knew this was legit because I was sending it to a fax machine at Starwoods Hotels.

While I am new to sweeping as well, I decided right away to use a different e mail address, I save all my expired sweepstakes in a folder in my favorites and if I ever get the "big win" I will certainly check these expired sweepstake web addresses to see that I have entered the contest, once I have affirmed I did enter the contest then and only then will I believe that I may actually have won something. I don't know how anyone else does it but I think this will work for me just to double check that I actually did enter the contest or not! In addition when I am saving the expired sweepstake, I add the drawing date address as part of the title...hope this helps you - also I know that this site does have a way to save your sweeps on this site, but I belong to several different sites for sweepers and it is easier for me to save them on my own computer.

If you don't know how to add a website to your favorites folder - using internet explorer 7, there are three little stars in the top left portion of your browser window, if you click on the double stars (a green and a yellow one) that will drop down a menu with the option of "Add to Favorites" or (you can hit the ctrl and the D at the same time and that will do the same thing ) then another window will open up and you can click on FOLDER to create a new folder - name it expired sweepstakes - then click ok.
To check the web addresses click on the single yellow star - look for the folder called expired sweepstakes, double click on it and the folder will open up and you can check all the sweeps you have put there....good luck everyone!!
I have become addicted to this and since starting sweeping two months ago I have had several instant wins and can't wait to hear I have won something big.

I could never save all the sweeps I've entered in favorites. 1) it would be too full as I enter too many. 2) for those multiple entry sweeps, I'm not always sure if its the first or second or third .... time I've entered. 3) I enter from three or more different computers right now, depending on where I enter from, and they don't share bookmarks.

Me either - I like having this site to save my sweeps on - then if I crash and lose all my info, it's still saved here!!! :headbang:

Hi - I have been sweeping for about 3 years and only this year won my first really big sweep (over $1000) and have won several of less than $100. The ones of less than $100 just showed up in the mail with no email notification. The ones that did have an email notification were definately clear on the email that they were wins. CONGRATULATIONS - YOU HAVE WON and then in the body of the email they stated the name of the contest and exactly what I had won a DVD - a T-shirt - the name of the contest and when it was ran and everything so that I could go back to the contests that I had entered and track it exactly.

The big one I won - Quick and Simple Magazine - I received a phone call from the company in New York - they asked for me - told me they were calling about a recipe contest that I had entered on such and such a date - asked me if I had remembered - and asked me if I had entered a recipe and if I remembered the name of the recipe I had entered - Once I told them the name of the recipe I had sent in - they told me that I was the grand prize winner - and that they wanted to confirm my address and would be sending me an affadavit to sign and return and a 1099 form for tax purposes. Once they had received that, they would be sending me my prize. I received their paperwork, had it taken care of - sent back, and received my prizes UPS in less than 1 week.

With the real prizes, you will know - the scams which there are tons of - you will come to recognize in a heart beat - but never ever spend a dime on any prize - and never ever give out any information that was not asked for on the sweeps entry form.

Thanks to all who answered my question! Sweepers are the nicest people!

I still have yet to win anything but this is a relaxing hobby for me. Plus the fact, that someday ... I might win something!

My kids think I'm goofy for entering contests, but hey, the body can't handle running anymore and I don't do bars. :cheers: Good luck to all in 2008!

:sunny:When i won from american idol from the ford sweepstakes company I got a telephone call and they told me that i would get papers to go to my bank and get it notorized and sent back to them withing the next 48 huors and they would call me with the information and they made plane resversations first class and i went to see the idol final shows and won five hundred dollars and got a new car
