home phone vs cell phone

Im thinking about getting rid of my landline phone and only have a cell. Have any of you done this? I cant think of a reason not to really. It would be cheaper. or maybe just take off all the bells and whistles and most of the long distance.. then again the fees that are charged every month on my landline bill are ridiculous.. if they need a new tax it seems they stick it on there. Im trying to find ways to save and cut back.

Before you get rid of your landline, check into digital phone services. They have come a long way, come with all the bells and whistles and are much cheaper than regular phone services. Plus, there is no long distance charges. :headbang:

If I had a choice, I'd get rid of all the phones. They all seem to ring at the same time.

I hate a phone...any phone. Unless I absolutely need to use it and then it's OK  We have a landline but it is terrible. Where we live service is bad and we get nothing but static and random cut offs. I'll be in the middle of talking to whoever and the phone will go dead. In the middle of no where with 1 inadequate tower.

I'm the exact opposite. I hate cells. Always have. I hate lugging them around and I hate that anyone can interrupt me wherever, whenever. I can understand the need for one when you're traveling or have kids who may need to get a hold of you but but other than that I have no use for one. I have Vonage. I've used it for about 2 1/2 years now with absolutely no problems other than my cable going down and effectively cutting off my service. Seems the only drawback. I get unlimited calls, long distance, voice mail, caller ID, call waiting etc. for $30 a month (with taxes and stuff). International LD would be another $6 and I can add a second line for $5. Okay...I'm sounding like a commercial now. Anyways...cell phone bad...land line good for me.

LOL! Just thinking about how much I detest the Vonage commercials. Woo hoo woo hoo hoo!! I get that in my head and it won't leave! :cussing:

I dropped my landline down to the most basic service possible (limited local calls, no extras) and it is less than $15 a month including taxes - and that's in TX where they throw tons of taxes on utilities to make up for no income tax. I like it for incoming calls so I don't have to give out my cell to doctors or on sweeps or other such stuff. It's working out well for us although I sometimes miss caller id.

We would never get rid of our landline. We have been on digital service for almost two years now. I could never imagine using our cell phones as our main phone.

We only have cell phones. I have had a cell phonce since I was 17, 8 years now, and don't see the point of landline.

Michael doesn't want to get rid of it but we never use it. I think a lot of it has to do with age. Not saying he's old but you know, he is 34.

He has 2 cell phones, I have one and each kid has one.

Most of my firends don't have one.

What is funny is the last time we had to call the Sheriff, Michael grabbed the cell phone, not the landline.

Of course, he also grabbed his gun.

Elaborate. Please

We live in the country. You live out here, you better have one. By the time the police show up, you'll be dead.

He has three plus a couple of hunting rifles. Both of our boys know how to shoot, I hate to admit it I'm terrified of them.

Last time was my ex-bf showed up here, thinking he could bully Michael. That was his first mistake

The only reason I have a landline is for my internet. If they offered cable or something out here, I wouldn't need it because, I use my cell for everything and prefer it that way. My husband says we would keep the landline if we had cable/dsl internet but, I guess mainly for emergencies or people who want to call us on the housephone (hmmm, survey companies? lol)

I dropped our land line a few weeks ago after my son got me wireless Internet. I had just the basic no frills and it was costing a small fortune with all the taxes! Use to love my cell phone but now I seems to be getting more junk calls and text messages (they cost me 15 cents a piece). Don't miss the landline since I hadn't had a phone hooked to it in almost 2 years.
