Having to let go of a pet

Is one of the hardest things to do. Yesterday my daughter and her husband had to put their dog of 13 down because she has bone cancer. If any of you have ever been there ( and I am sure you have ) then you know how difficult it is to go through. I have had to go through this and it is just like loosing a family member. I just hope they don't grieve too much.

To all of our pets we love you and you bring so much joy to our hearts.

Oh, cin. My heart goes out to you and your daughter. Pets become so much a part of our lives and our family, I know this must be hard on all of you.

We had to put or Rottweiler to sleep a couple of years ago.
Still miss him - but it was for the best 'cos he was suffering.

best wishes.

I'm so sorry for your daughter to go through that. I love my two dogs like children. It is so difficult to lose one of your pets. Our oldest dog is 12 and starting to have health problems, and I get upset just thinking about what could happen! There is nothing I can say to comfort her, but tell her we pet lovers understand how painful it is to lose a pet that claims a place in our hearts!

Oh I am sorry cin, I know that is the worst. I just had to put down my sons home dog from his childhood. she was 14, had a tumor in nose and it was removed, but had spread, cancer. She still lived here, he left her when he moved out because she had lived here in the country all her life and didnt want to move her to town. Anyway luckly he was home on leave and got to tell her goodbye, then after he went back I took her to have it done. Sad, Sad. So I know it is terrible, i am crying just writing about it, know we love ya and are praying for you and your family. they are so much a part of our lives. My boy's dear Ruby Jane can be an puppy angle now and your will to.No pain, No sorrow

I'm so sorry for all your losses. I am a huge animal lover. Just adopted our new puppy 2 weeks ago. Every time I lose one I say, NEVER AGAIN. Then, somehow, a new stray shows up at the door, I click on the rescue site or hit the shelter and there is another 4 legged baby in the house. My house is not big enough anymore. :headbang:

Pets add so much to our lives. Losing one is so painful. Things are definitely changing when it comes to how people treat their pets. They are no longer property, they are family. Although it makes losing them even more painful, it makes the time we spend with them so much more fulfilling.

Cherish your memories. With time, it makes it bearable.

Thanks everyone for the kind and encouraging words. I will pass them on to her although I'm sure it will make her cry. I think it's ok to cry in situations like this because it helps in the grieving progress. I have had to put a couple of my dogs down before and I know how dificult it is. I told her to think about the good memories they had with the dog amd that will help.

We also had to put our family rottweiler down of 8 years. It's so hard to make that choice to when you know to keep them around would mean for them to suffer more. I wish the best for you all in moving forward. :)

So sorry for the loss.

I'm still recovering from the loss of my cat, Lindros, about 7 weeks ago. He was 14 and was in great health, but started going downhill in January. We finally made the decision to put him down when we realized we couldn't "reach him" anymore. I'm 37, and so far this has been by far the hardest thing I ever had to do. You just keep hoping and praying that something will happen and make them better. But in the end it was the right thing to do.

She will have a hard time of it for a while and I think it's something that you have with you always. I'm so sorry for those of you who have been in the same situation because it is painful. That's the good thing about being here though because we can all share our storries and be supportive. You all are the best.
