Have Your Ever Turned Down a Win?

I was feeling a bit down a few weeks ago as I had won a grand prize which included a trip to New York. I turned it down mainly because it was so last minute and there was no way I could find a sitter and also because I am so fearful of flying. In all reality I am not even sure why I entered is as I never enter sweeps that have trips that involve flying (yep, I am that afraid!).

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else had to turn down a prize? I have no idea why it got me down but it actually did! :(

Being part of a Nascar pit crew with severe asthma is not a good idea either :crazytongue: When you get in the groove entering sometimes its nice to imagine what you might want, but when it comes right down to it that is not what you actually want or need....

My husband had to turn down a trip, and I was bummed for him, so I know what you mean starryeyes.

There were lower tier prizes that he would have loved to win, so that's why he was entering it.

I don't fly anymore {my back/neck froze up last time} so I'll enter sweeps with lower tier prizes and a trip GP & HOPE I don't win the GP!!!

I also check the rules to make sure they will reaward the GP - if not, then I skip it, even though I know it's a long shot that they'd pick me - there are just too many other good sweeps to enter to bother with those!!!

Now don't think I'm picking on you - I have NO idea what sweeps this was, and your reason for entering, and even if I did, it's not my business how you enter!!!

If I were you? I'd look at this as part of the learning curve, and be more selctive in the future - no harm, no foul. :sunny:

^^Yep!! Now I scan every inch of the rules to make sure. When I first started sweeping a couple months ago I was so excited I entered almost every one. Now I just do the ones that I would like to win. I know it seems like common sense, but for some reason I just went all out, lol. :)

Yes, I turned down a screening for 100(?) people (may have been 50, it was a few years ago). The rules didn't give the value, but it was way more than I wanted to pay taxes for. They were really great about it and sent me a DVD instead!

I could totally see it happening again. I enter some contests if I really want the lower tier prizes, but if I was lucky and won the top prize, I might turn it down. (There is a Spike TV contest right now that matches that situation).

I almost turned down a GPS system. Wish I had! It was one of those in-car ones ($1500) and it turned out that we couldn't install it in either of our cars. Ended up selling it for not much more than the taxes!

I turned down the two airline vouchers I won from orbitz because the had to be used by 6/6/09 and I already have a vacation booked for March. The agent told me they would be tossed back into the prize pool so I didn't feel too bad about it.

I had to turn down a trip for 2 to California to see Fallout Boy in concert/airfare/hotel/meet and greet because my husband was having kidneystone surgery and there was no way for me to go. My oldest daughter was crushed...I didn't tell her, but her Daddy did.

I was really glad that they picked someone else though and I figured it wasn't meant to be for some reason. I haven't won a trip since then either...that is the hard thing ~lol!
