Has anyone lost a sweepstakes because you didn't open an email?

I have lost two sweepstakes as far as I know.

Did not reply to an email in time about winning the complete series for Supernatural. Bummer. This was about two years ago.

I also won sweepstakes with Coors about two tickets to an NBA game. Really good seats. Like $100-150 per ticket. The sad thing is I was emailing the guy on when I would receive the tickets and he didn't reply back. I thought it would be mailed to me. I then get an automated email from Ticketmaster my tickets had expired after the game ended. I looked at my email and saw a deleted automated email 5 days before the game with the link to activate my ticket.

My best advice is to take look at your email, use the search filter "winner," "congratulations," "[insert your name winner]" I have had a lot of close calls. Recently I won a $50 link to activate a gift card. I thought it was spam, but it was legit.

Does anyone have any of these bad experiences? Luckily I didn't lose a "big prize" but still, that's about $400 lost for me!

This is a great reminder for everyone who enters sweepstakes. Unfortunately, this does happen often, and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be! Those are some great suggestions as well. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you make that value back - and more - this year from your wins!

@professortofty recently posted about this story of a woman who ~almost~ didn't claim her $3 million prize that was in her spam folder!

Email management can be really exhausting when you enter a lot of sweeps. The majority of my winning emails have been during business hours and from actual people ([email protected]). I have made it a habit to search my email for the words "congrat" "Winner" "you won" and "sweepstake" I can also sort by favorites and emails with attachments. I do this several times a day throughout the day. That way, even if I can't go through each email that day, I am almost certain to have caught a winning email. I can't recall any specific losses I have had due to missed emails, and I really don't want to know. A situation where ignorance can be bliss. 😬

I almost Lost 300$ because of not checking email, they gave me 15 days to respond, I had hours left......

I made it just in time, i had to send an affidavit then 3 months later I received a visa with 300$

i noticed some contest has 24 hours to reply

I don't know. More apt to have missed a sponsor that called & left no message. I'm not likely to pick up the phone w/ unknown numbers.

I've noticed a good % of winning e-mails I get just have the name of the promotion in the subject line & nothing else, so it pays to read carefully sometimes.
