Hubby used to fly there for work crazy amount of hours so I didn't want to go ever even though all it would cost is the ticket.

i would do the same myself, hubby flies there for work a couple times a year, i don't go with him for the long flight

Do you live on the East coast? I used to fly from Chicago to Honolulu quite often and it was a nine hour flight. Also, you could explain the situation to the sponsor and see if they'll work with you to arrange it so that you can do it. For example, it's only a five hour flight from Los Angeles, Las Vegas or San Francisco, so see if you could leave from one of those places. You can then drive there if relatively close or fly in the day before on your own dime. I mean, I don't know where you live, but it could be doable with a little flexibility from the sponsor and it never hurts to ask. I hope you're able to work something out and enjoy Hawaii, but you need to do what's right for you and only you and your family can decide what's best. Congratulations on a fantastic win! Blessings to you!

REMEMBER: You have nothing to lose by asking the sponsor for special travel considerations. I do it EVERY time I win a trip prize. Let's face it, even f the sponsor is providing air and hotel and a small amount for additional expenses, like food, it doesn't mean that they pay for everything. Traveling costs money. There are always additional expenses. So when I win trips, I try to make them worth it and worth my while. I'll ask if I can add a day or two on my dime. If the sponsor is paying for three days hotel from Friday-Sunday and I'm supposed to fly out on Monday, I'll ask if I can fly in on Monday instead of Friday and pay for the additional 4 nights of hotel stays so that I have a full weeks vacation. In your case, going to Hawaii from NC would be about an 11 hour flight. If that's too long a flight, you could consider flying to Vegas for two days and then leaving for Hawaii from there and then do the same thing on return. Most sponsors will never mind spending less, but they will not spend more. It would be cheaper for them to arrange travel for you from the West coast, so if you could afford it, it doesn't hurt to ask if they'd do that for you and then just add the extra days on your own tab. That would break the flights up into smaller portions. I hope that helps. Also, don't be afraid to ask for a cash alternative prize if they won't accommodate you. They just might say "yes" and that beats turning it down.
