Giving Date of Birth

I'm still new to sweeping and I know that alot of the companies giving the prizes want to confirm that the person entering is at least 18 (or whatever age stated in official rules). Does anyone have an issue with giving their real date of birth. How dangerous is it especially when you are also giving full name, address, and phone numbers. Has anyone ever had any identity theft problems with giving all that info. I know that the birthdate is often "required" to enter, but wondering if I give a fake date (maybe the real year, but different month and day) will I forfeit my prize if I can't produce the entered dates?

Thanks to all, and may we all win something big!!!!! :headbang:

I've always been honest and never had any issues with identity theft from sweeping nor have I heard of anything worse than some extra spam emails. If you're cautious, use common sense and don't enter anything that feels or seems off or scammy, you're likely going to be fine.

Lying about it probably won't catch up with you for smaller prizes where less verification is done, but anything that's big enough to require an affidavit, or any of the companies that do boilerplate affy's for everything will likely disqualify you if the data on your entry form doesn't match up with the information you give them for the legal paperwork.

Honesty is the best policy, it's not like a phone number or an email address where you can set one up specifically for sweeping purposes. You only get one date of birth.

Welcome to the wonderful world of sweeping! I have been doing sweepstakes online for about 15 years and use my real birthdate. Have never had any problems. I'm sure that there are some companies that may overlook that your month and day don't match your proof of identity but some are real sticklers for rules and will disqualify you. That would really be a shame to not get the prize just because you entered a false date but it is grounds for disqualification. Best of luck to you! Hope to see you posting some great wins soon!

Thanks for your answers, that helps. I don't want to do anything that may disqualify me so . . . I will continue to use my real birthdate.

Good luck and thanks again!

That is correct. I had my lesson on this when payment comes. There will be tons of issues if this was not sorted out.
