Frigidaire Facebook Win a Dishwasher

This was a new, one entry sweeps listed on SA today. I did it--replied on FB, and my FB was almost immediately hacked. Someone stole my profile photo, somehow started sending friend requests to some of my friends, and messaged them about winning sweepstakes. It was a nightmarish morning. Nothing like this has ever happened to me and all I can attribute it to is that FB Frigidaire page. FB deleted the phony account when I reported it. I THINK I'm ok now....anyone else ever have any trouble with FB sweepstakes? I am staying away from them from now on.

sherilee - Phony account? The one that hacked you, you mean? Frigidaire is legit

I can't understand how just liking the page and commenting allowed them to hack you?

How to Enter: To receive (1) entry during thePromotion Period, “like” the Frigidaire page on Facebook (if you haven’t doneso already) at www.facebook.com/Frigidaire and follow the specified instructions to comment on the timelinepost specified by Frigidaire

I know, but within 10 minutes of my commenting there, my picture was stolen and a phony me somehow was able to message my friends. People started to let me know ASAP. And the phony me was talking about winning sweepstakes. It was just a nightmare of a day but I think I'm ok. Frigidaire is a jinx for me--I have a Frigidaire dishwasher that is a lemon!

Oh man sherilee, that stinks!

I just can't see how they were able to hack your account from just a LIKE & comment - how in the heck are we supposed to protect ourselves if we don't know HOW this happens?

All they need is your profile picture and name. Which shows up when you like and comment. They don't actually get into your account, they use your picture and make a new account. Then they friend request all your friends, who can usually be seen even if your profile is private. If they can get your friend to enter their fake contest, now they have all their info. Make up a fake contest, get someone to enter it, and send them a fake affidavit. Well. Now they just got their identity stolen. And the thief checked out their facebook page already to make sure it was worth stealing. No way to protect from this except have friends that know not to accept duplicate friend requests.
