Facebook access

So many of the new contests are requesting permission to access information from our Facebook page.
I really don't know how Facebook works, but I do know I wouldn't have any friends if I allowed advertisers to have their information. Can these sponsors get email info and/or other specific info from the names of my friends? Can you tell me what the sponsors want to get from this access...I'm pretty sure it's more ways to get their ads to more people. It's one thing to ask for this access, but they're making it so we can't enter the contest if we don't give it. I think this is wrong and I won't do it until I am convinced that my friends won't be bombarded with all kinds of ads. Can someone help me understand if I'm over-reacting? Thanks

Hi Beedyr, I was wondering the same thing. All of a sudden I am getting new popups asking for more access to my info. It appears if I decline that I'm not entered in the sweeps. Its all very confusing! I guess Facebook recently made some kind of change somewhere. I just hope we can still enter contests without giving away the kitchen sink! If there are any Facebook savvy people out there, I would love an answer too. Thanks!! :)

Thanks Amy. This is a newer thing. I've always seen the regular popup asking for access to information, but just in the last week, there has been a new one popping up. Before, you could ignore the popup, or select deny, and you would usually be able to move on and enter the sweep. Now, every page expects an answer--usually in the affirmative--in order to enter. Probably just a new thing Facebook is requiring. I was just curious.
