Dream World Vacations??? Did I goof up?

I got a call earlier this evening from Dream World Vacations, telling me to sit down as they had just pulled my name to win the Hawaii Trip. I couldn't remember the contest, so I wasn't too excited. . The guy on phone said he had never had a winner who was less excited. I told him I was just skeptical and was wondering if they were going to ask me for money. He asked if I was interested if I had to pay something and I told him probably not. He then said he didn't want to waste my time then and hung up without telling me any details. I went looking and found I had in fact entered it and was a one time entry. They even had list of previous winners. Then I saw where it said in rules they would select winner on 15th on month. How could they have done it today then? Also said in rules you had to send in $50.00 money order for each person, which I have never heard of. I am fairly new at this though. I am still skeptical but just wondered if it was legit and I blew it or if anyone else has had this call. Maybe I should have played along and got more info. Did I blow a real trip? I still don't think so . What do you think? Thanks!

Now I'm really wondering about it as I only entered it on May 7th and was supposed to expire on June 1st. I entered it from listing on this site.

I bet they were trying to sell you something. I would have done the same thing. Don't lose sleep over it. It is better to err on the side of caution. Hope a great win comes and puts this out of your mind! :smt002

Congratulations on making an excellent choice not to participate. I'm just betting you would have been sorry if you had. Erroring on the safety side of things is always correct as Wolfie stated. Now let's all get on to the fun side of sweepstaking and put the rip-off artists to sleep.

:smt017 That's odd as my husband said a man called from the same place yesterday for me while I was at work. He told them what days I would be home and they are suppose to call back. Will let you know if they do indeed call back and what they have to say to me.

Thank you so much PMeek. Please let me know what you find out. I just think by the way the guy talked to me it was some sort of "boiler room" operation. Perhaps i am wrong. Maybe he just got ticked off that i wasn't jumping up and down with excitement, but when I told him I hoped he wasn't going to tell me i had to come up with money for this trip, he said he didn't want to waste any more of my time. Never once, did he try to reassure me it was a ligitimate free win. Maybe I should have acted more excited and gotten more info. He just didn't give me much of a chance. I will anxiously await your post. thanks!!!

:smt006 There are so many scams out there in cyberland

it is hard to tell sometimes if it is a true win...

If they ask for money or if you have to sign up on several

pages of offers it is not worth the effort and not a true win.

Here's to lots of legit wins for all of us!

Sorry to say.. both my mother & I got the same call. It was congrats for entering for the Hawaii trip and good luck but in the meantime you have been chosen for.. it was 4 trips that would cost you over $600 LOL as soon as I told him I did not have a Major Credit card he said oh he's sorry they would have to get back to me. My mother made him run numbers for each of the trips individually and then told him she could get it cheaper herself online :)

Well, I at least feel vindicated now for getting rid of the guy. My DH said I should have gotten more info. Thanks so much and everyone else, BEWARE! I have a feeling we are all destined to get the "are you sitting down?" call. LOL!! thanks again for posting your experience with this company. One more thing, did he tell you that you were the "Talk of the Office, since we pulled your name this morning?" LOL!

I also generally avoid trip sweeps - cruises in particular - because free isn't always free :smt002 :smt003 :smt004

Sounds like they got what they wanted - info to hard sell - and since that's WHY sponsors have sweeps (to get new business) we all just have to be careful to read the fine print in the RULES & PRIVACY POLICY on ANY & ALL sweeps we enter!!!

Can you imagine if SA's editors had to include all that fine print in EVERY listing??? We'd be lucky to have 5 new sweeps a day, lmao!!! :smt005

thanks Amy. I guess after you have been at this longer than I have, it will be easier to spot these types of companies. So, are you saying you have to be extra careful with most of the cruises? What about the Disney trips then? I seem to be finding lots of things with their name on them. Thanks for the info. Do You ever get asked for "deposit" or money on a true sweeps win? Just curious so will be ready next time.

GT (moderator greensthings) is the best one to ask on trip wins - I can only go by what I've read, never having won a trip :smt002

The RULES should apprise you of any costs - usually with cruise wins there is always something - but if you are talking about emails saying you won and need to remit $$$ to receive your prize? USUALLY scams!!!

Just post when you get an email you aren't sure of - especially if you can't find/don't remember entering their sweeps - we'll help you determine the stinkers :smt004

: Dream World Vacations??? Did I goof up?

:smt006 O.K. hostaaddict, I got the return call today. Spoke with Mark Gilbert, they make it sound like your name was chosen for this spectacular prize, always asking if I am sitting down and wondering why I am not overly excited. He has me write all this down (like I wouldn't be) he says that I was chosen to receive the annual exclusive prize of 4 mini trips: Hawaii, Freeport, Cancun & Las Vegas. It's for a total of 19 days he tells me. Of course it doesn't take me long to figure it is really for 16 nights. They will be Fed-exing me a portfolio with all the information as soon as I give them my Visa number so they can charge me $698. I ask what that includes and it is just for accomodations no airfare! I have won this prize that is going to cost me $44 a night. I tell him to mail me the info and after I read it over, I will decide. Of course, that can't do that so I tell him that to me when someone tells me that I have won this wonderful prize it shouldn't be costing me nearly $700 and that I am not interested.

To make a long story short, you did the right thing! This is not a win.
Sweepers beware of DreamWorldVacation.com!

Thank you for posting, pmeek. I have been waiting to find out what your experience was. What? He didn't tell you that you were the "Talk of the Office since early this morning when they pulled your name"? LOL! No transportaion either? Wow! I guess he didnt want to waste any more time with me so never heard any of those trip details. Thanks for getting the info and posting to warn others!

: Dream World Vacations??? Did I goof up?

Sorry to hear that you all we're "scammed". I hate it when that happens. I'm just glad we can all be there for eachother to pick out the bad apples. Here's to legit wins!

: Dream World Vacations??? Did I goof up?

Nah, you're not scammed unless you actually pay for that happy horsehockey. I'm so glad to hear that everyone here who got that call was smart enough to recognize the scammers where they lurk!!! Good job, ladies!
