My niece "won" Dr. Pepper college tuition, $30k BUT didn't answer the phone. So she lost it.

Just goes to show you that we need to keep up with our mail/email/phone calls. I am heart broken but it just wasn't meant to be. Sure would have helped her in her life though! :)

OH MY!!! That's awful!!!! Did they leave a message and she just didn't check it until too late?

OMG - That is not fair at all, if someone's name is pulled as a winner they should be notified by phone, email and/or mail. I know that when I won my big prize, I was contacted by phone and email. Good gravy - so sorry she lost the prize.

Unimaginable!! Anyone can miss a call. I hope they at least left a message and she check it too late as someone mentioned above, otherwise that would just be horrible. Stay positive, hopefully this means something even bigger coming her way.

Yea. I don't get this. In many rules it states one attempt will be made to contact winner by phone. No message will be left. F...U. You pick a winner and then can't even be cordial enough to call them back or leave a message with a number to call them back, say within 48 hrs. I just saw a new sweep with this in the rules the other day. We need to remind these sponsors or sweep companies we do not always have our phones up our A$$.

Thanks all. Yes, she is a working college student, busy all the time, so she just didn't see the voicemail I think until over the 48 hours or what have you.

She was so sad that she did not even want to tell me, since I am the one helping her with contesting. But, I reassured her that if it is meant to be it will happen.

Also, it put the contest-fire back under my butt! I have been seriously slacking for the holiday season, but no more! :D

Very sorry to hear this. I had had it happen several times. No way can I have the phone with me at all time. And when I am at work somes places I can not be on my phone or don't have cell service for a couple or more hours at a time. Frustrating.

I'm so sorry for your niece. I've been sweeping for four and a half years and only once have I been informed that I was a winner by phone. And that win was just for a tumbler. I do try to answer my cell phone, even when I don't recognize the number, just in case. But, I'm not good at keeping it with me all the time. Good luck to your niece and her studies.

I Pass on some of the biggies if I see verbiage like ;

I'm so sorry this happened to you! However, imagine that perhaps the person that did win it needed it even more. And perhaps your niece will learn a lesson from this that will propel her much further in life than the $30k would have. God/The Universe works in mysterious ways! Perhaps instead she will apply for a scholarship or internship and through that program she will find her true calling... but had she not needed it, she would have never done it and missed out on a bigger opportunity. Have faith that everything worked out as it should have. Hugs.

Oh gosh this makes me sad for her. I hope something else comes her way.

this is the sort of story that would make me not buy Dr Pepper for the rest of my life....even if it happened to someone else. There's supposed to be a measure of fairness among civilized people.

wow - this is definitely heartbreaking but I'm flabbergasted why something this big wouldn't have gotten certified mail notification AND voice mail, AND e-mail. Now I know to check my phone - but all I also get are unknown numbers who leave no voicemails, so I assume they are robo callers. I won a prize where they said final notification in e-mail, but they never sent me a first notification! Unless it was via phone with no message left... but at least they sent me an e-mail, which I am more apt to see.

Hope you guys win a bigger prize! There's always a win around the corner...

cneshe - they choose how they want to contact you, and they usually will tell you in their rules, but if they ask for your phone # it is [usually] an indicator they will call the potential winner{s} & if entry was via TEXT they will contact you via TEXT - this is why I always check the rules
