I went to the gyno today, $210!!!!! For an annual exam, can you believe it, and that was only 63 % of what it normally costs. Ugh break my wallet why don't ya. I seriously thought, I will never go to the g doctor ever agian, I will just die from cancer. (I know that is so morbid) but hey I don't have that much money. I went with $80 thinking I would have some left over. Boy was I wrong.

 :cussing:  is how I feel right now.

It is really sad the the cost of health care is so high! Just to walk in the door here it costs almost $100.00 and then we only see a PAC or is it PCA????? The Dr with the license only flies in every 2 weeks on his private plane and that is only on a Saturday! Got to hand it to the PCA's though, without them we would all be sick!! I hope everything comes back fine and will keep you in my thoughts so you don't have to go back for another 364 days!!!!

im so sorry tiff. I know you dont have that kind of cash to throw around(who does). ya gotta go though. We have ins thru my husbands work. they pay 100% of premiums but we still have copays. I checked around for an eye doctor. the kids are due. they have to go atleast once a year. well, with the ins it would have cost 367.00. I called where I took them before we had ins and quess what. 285.00. isnt that something. I quess I wont be using the ins.

yea I guess just once a year, Thats like 40 cents a day or something. hmm lol not good at math but you get the point. I better start saving up for next years.

I can relate with not having insurance because we don't have it neither. I go to the County Health Department for my gyno visits because they are free. But the last visit they sent me to another clinic because they found something that needed further checking and it wasn't free. I did get a little financial help but it didn't cover everything.

We are some of the lucky ones that DO have insurance! A couple of years ago I found a lump in my breast and had to go get a mammogram done. Surprise!! Seems I am to young to have breast cancer so I had to pay all charges for the mammogram. Just glad that they didn't find anything. My doctor wasn't happy with the findings but I couldn 't spend the extra money to have it checked out further :cussing:

ya know what I find funny. and not in a good way. is that most ins wont pay for mammograms unless you are over a certain age or are high risk. but will pay for stuff like viagra. makes me wonder.

had to take my 4 year old son to the emergency room..he cut the bottom of his foot, and of course,he had to get 4 stitches....no insurance...bills came...ya bills i received two....over a thosand dollars :cussing: :cussing:...you have got to be kidding me....the poor gets poorer

Health care is a joke in this country. Its sooo expensive. We have ins and still cant afford to go to the doctor. Maybe they will let ya make payments. small ones hopefully.

Don't have health insurance.
Well kids try paying for open heart surgery triple by-pass & a valve replacement. It cost about a third in Wisconsin where my husband was on a Packers Football weekend compared to CA but you talk about bills. I doubt if my husband at 60 and me of 56 will live long enough to pay anything off. Forget credit we're on every collection agencies list. Oh and yes he had complications so the hospital in CA didn't charge us because of our debts but the three specialists did. Now if all this hasn't made your day my husband was back drinking and smoking after 6 months.

Here are some tips to deal with medical bills, you have to be persistent and willing to go through many hoops, but it can help:

Ask for a detailed itemized bill. If there are any items that are billed just as codes, state you want to know what those codes are for. Go over this with a fine toothed comb. You will often find many things that you were charged for but did not get.

Call the billing department, state you are self pay and in dire need of help with the bill. Often they will discount the bill, or refer you to resources that will help with part if not all of it.

Nitpick the crap out of your bill if they will not negotiate or be reasonable. If they charged you an outrageous amount of money for something, like $20 for tylenol, call them on it. If they still will not relent, tell them you are going to go to the state medical board, your local news station, and the local paper about the outrageous charges.

If at all possible, use an urgent care center (doc in a box) for things that are not a life or death emergency, like stitches or a sprained ankle. They are much cheaper than an ER.

Tell your doctor that you are self pay, and ask if there is a cheaper medicine, test, or treatment available. There often is, but you have to pry it out of them.

Go to your local low-income health clinic instead of private doctors. You may have to wait forever to get in, and it won't be fancy, but even paying their full price is usually way cheaper than regular doctors.
