Do you give out your real phone number?

I get alittle upset with sweepstakes and contests that *require* your phone number. I usually put in a bogus number. Do you all give your real one out? I don't even do it for the big companies like (most recently entered contest was for M&M's)...I see no reason for them to have my number.
 
Some sweepstakes will only notify by phone...and some will not award you the prize if they can't reach you by phone. I don't like giving it out either so if it's not required I don't. But it's part of sweepstakin' and you will disqualify yourself from winning some prizes if you don't give them a number you can be reached at.
 
I don't mind giving them out my phone #. I just won't submit to any of them that REQUIRE a cell phone #.
 
I have no problem giving it out. Nowadays, if someone wants to find out your phone number, even unlisted ones, they can do it quite easily. You must also keep in mind another thing. When you enter these sweeps, you are also agreeing to their rules. When you hit that "submit" button, you are also acknowledging that all your required information is correct. Giving false information is grounds for not awarding the prize to a winner.
 
LIDARKSIDE makes a good point - if a phone number is required for entry, entering a bogus number could get you DQ'ed.

I also agree that your phone number is probably already out there.

I have a friend who recently started sweeping and she, for awhile, did the bogus phone number. It's true, if anyone wants your number they can find it on the web. I think it's pretty safe with the big brand names.

I had another friend who is skeptical of entering and this morning said "aren't you afraid of giving out your info?"....I said, no, because I'm not giving them anything that anyone couldn't find on the internet anyway. I WILL NOT give out a SS # or a Driver's License Number, no matter what. I don't like to give out my cell phone either, and don't usually enter those that require it.

If you use a fake phone number, you really are disqualifying yourself, which it seems to me, might be a waste of time entering.

The sweeper may have to make note, though, of those sweepstakes like "Valpak" where you need to answer the phone when they call or forfeit the prize so that they use a number on those that they can get through on to the winner.
 
I have been sweeping and giving out my # for over 2 years now. I rarely get a call from a telemarketer. Mostly just our credit card co., Starz / dish, and fraternal order or police. I am also on the gov. no call list and I do not give out my cell number.
 
I agree with JeffandChristie. I have been entering for a couple of years now and I can think of maybe three or four calls that I have rec'd because of sweeps I have entered. One was for a time share in Branson, MO and another one from Curves. Curves kept calling until I emailed them to take me off their call list but hey, if I would have won that cruise it wouldn't have been so bad. Just give them your number and don't worry.
 
I do with most since they do call people (never got a winning call here yet) but, I do put fake numbers in some sweeps that I don't trust much.
 
I always give my phone number. In the last 2 months I got three big wins by being notified by phone. A $10,000 GC to Home depot, A winning trip to San Francisco - Budget travel an a trip to Las Vegas by McDonalds for the Latin Music Awards. So I guess you should give your phone number.
 
I use a cellphone #. I thought that this was best so that my house phone wasnt ringing off of the hook. I have won with a call notification, they left a message for me to call back to claim my prize & I did :sunny:
