Do we even stand a chance? - Social Media RANT

It seems more and more sweeps are "1 entry out of __ received" unless you do Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. etc. etc... I don't. I have a Facebook account, but I don't use it to pester my friends for entries. I don't do Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, the list is almost endless.

So, should I just skip those sweeps since I can only get 1 of the "14" available entries? I certainly don't have 14x more time to spend entering sweeps, in order to do ALL of the entries. It's really frustrating. The odds are certainly not in my favor, to misquote Hunger Games. :)

Rafflecopter, I'm look at YOU! (and others)

I recently won a 20 piece China Set from Noritake on their facebook page (worth $300). I put in 15 out of 30 possible entries. I don't think most people put in all the entries. There were over 34,000 total entries. The odds are always way against winning any sweepstakes. As long as it's fun for you, enter, if a sweepstakes is getting under your skin, it isn't worth the stress.

Yeah, at some point they stop being sweepstakes and start being WORK. Glad to hear someone actually won with less than the full complement of entries!

Someone is going to post that it only takes one entry to win, and they'll be right.

With that thought in mind, I'll continue to plug on the old fashioned way.

I'd rather spend my time entering multiple sweeps rather than 14 entries on 1 sweep.

Yes, do try to max out your entries, but unless the prize is something you just can't live without, just enter & move on to the next one!

The Sweeper's Credo:

Enter and forget it.

Always be happy for those who win - even when they win "your" prize - and be positive you will win.

Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing. Especially for those elusive instants! IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win.

If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.

I really believe that if you go into it thinking you can't win, well, you'll MAKE yourself right so often you'll start believing it!!!

I truly do believe you have to have a positive attitude - don't get hung up on what others are doing - just focus on entering, then move on to something else - like posting so we can get to know you!!!

So hang in there - and enter, enter, enter - and you'll be posting a win before you know it!!! And remember - every day brings new opportunities to win!!!

Yep - I won an unlimited entry once by only entering once a day because I forgot it was an unlimited entry :p

I guess my biggest concern is the number of sweeps taking this "multiple entries" route. If 1,000 people enter and each gets one entry, my odds of winning are 1:1000. If everyone else enters all 14 times, including the "extra" entries, my odds drop to 1:13,987.

I suspect that most of the 999 other people won't take advantage of all 14 opportunities. There are many of us who just don't have the time, patience or inclination to enter a sweep that many times. Additionally, some of us don't have all (or any) of the necessary Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc. accounts. I think your final odds will be substantially better than 1 in 13,987.

I can totally relate to your social media rant. I made an Instagram account by an app on my computer I don't have android or whatever it takes to post pics I just have the account for it. So, I heard Instagram was cleaning up fake accounts lately, apparently all my likes of photos disappeared on Instagram. You know where you 'like' a picture...
My overall opinion is this:Seems it is hard to get ahead in the social media world. And, I've entered blog contests before and they were sooooo connected to the social media for me. I was thinking about having an Instagram one day if I can get what it takes, well, NOT since I checked my 'likes' *just now and they are all gone. (A great big ole' sigh)...I just stick to the straight form sweeps now which significantly cuts down on my "JOB" sweeping. I know some administrators not so much Eprize/aka Hello World they do make good sweeps but some times the Social Media gets in the way of fun sweeps for me majorly. Specifically, I remember one sweeps that said they'd give you extra instant win chances to get friends to sign up. Of course that irked me a tiny bit ....As far as odds for when you enter to answer your question I just stick with my set of entries and make sure I am diligent about entering now. I think if there are tons of hoops to jump thru I don't do it.

Your odds are probably better than you think, but it's so hard to win anything. I have won so I can't say it won't happen, but oh well life is not perfect but the social media I think is just not a part of a requirement I don't think it should be!!

Ah, odds. I choose to ignore those, especially after winning the only GP off a daily entry with monthly prizes that ran almost a year!

It has recently come to light that Blog giveaways disqualify a winning entry if it comes from a page devoted to sweeping- so using Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest can actually work against you if you use those accounts in a way that is devoted to contesting. It's better to plug in 1 anonymously and move on.
