Declined Trip Win

I don’t enter sweepstakes where a trip is the prize unless there’s a secondary prize I’d like to win, or there's a cash option shown .

That’s the case here. I entered for the instant win portion, hoping to win a gas gift card. Instead I won a grand prize which I had to decline. I was one of 5 winners and they are going to select someone else to replace me.

The prize is an off-roading adventure of winners choice for a 4 day 5 night trip to Durango, Co, Palm Springs, Cal or Santa Fe, NM. The ARV is $10,000 and the sweep was one of the tobacco sweeps - USA GOLD BLAZE NEW AMERICAN TRAILS SWEEPSTAKES AND INSTANT WIN GAME.

This would have been my largest ARV win, but I’m just not in a position to accept it.

The rules didn't allow for a cash option. I asked if they'd consider one , but they said no.

Hopefully, it’ll be a member here at SA who’ll be selected as my replacement.

That sucks. I would have loved to be picked. But, I do understand, if you're not interested, you're not interested.... right? Anyhow, hopefully you get something soon that you want...

curmudgeon - I truly wish sponsors/JA's would utilize separate entry points on promos where the GP is a trip and the lower tier prizes are only tangentially related - while gas & GPS are needed to travel, most of us who entered aren't looking for an off-roading adventure!

Amy,

I suspect that trips are easier to win as there are fewer people who enter. Taxes, time, or physical disability issues are problems that cause many of us to skip these types of sweeps. Fewer entrants means better odds for those who do enter. I'd enter 'em all if they'd grant a cash option.

Taxes, time and disability all all issues for me now and off-roading was never one of my pursuits - give me a pair of skis and a mountain, or a beach and a volleyball. Any activity where I'm "doing", not sitting and watching.

The last two years have been a very trying time for me physically. I was in the hospital twice. A month the first time and almost as long 1 year later. That's 60 days of sweeping lost - who knows what I could have won. Perhaps a trip, eh?

curmudgeon "Taxes, time, or physical disability issues" - it is the latter for me - last time I flew, I was bedridden for 3 days of my week long trip! Stupid neck/back issues. That was over a decade ago.

Volleyball was my game - indoor/outdoor or beach {I preferred indoor} and when my back got too bad, I became a referee. My back got worse, so I had to give that up too.

Cash in lieu are my faves - too few offer that tho - no pro quid quo w/other sponsors I guess?

oh Amy , so sorry! my daughter is a Volleyball fanatic and i too play in the local old womens rec leauge (;) we just love it, sorry you are no longer able to play!

and congrats to original winner, what a shame you had to decline!! hopefully something else good comes your way!

At one point, I bowled in a league, was on 3 VB teams {2 women & 1 mixed - I was the setter} and was in Cuba {as a SEABEE/Builder} w/out my family; DH & newborn {a few months old} son.

BIG changes when I hurt my back & had to give up playing sports and ended up doing a desk job! Oh well, big fun while it lasted!!!
