Even MacGyver’s incredible skills with everyday objects can’t help him avoid his ultimate fate – being sucked into New Line’s remake maw.

Yes, that’s right, after years of rumours, ‘80s action adventure series MacGyver – which made Richard Dean Anderson a mulletted star and the lust object for Patti and Selma on The Simpsons – is getting the big screen treatment.

For those who are too young to remember, or missed out on the awesome power of the Mac, the series saw Anderson’s secret agent heading out on missions for the Phoenix Foundation.

Without fail, he’d get into some scrape or trouble and have to figure a way out, usually by utilising items – from pencils to chewing gum – to escape or foil his enemies’ plans.

Now Raffaella De Laurentiis – Dino’s daughter (he’s on board too) – is looking for a writer and a killer concept that will modernise the story while keeping its pop cultural roots intact.

MacGyver has become such a common concept that it’s entered the language and been spoofed many times.

Will Forte does a great take on the show with the SNL sketches MacGruber, which Anderson recently visited. We’re hoping he gets a cameo in the film.

OMG! They are seriously lacking in the creative department there. its crazy. All they know are remakes and sequels.. please! give me a break. oh, did you hear about the 90's movies set to be remade..

At this point it’s a fait accompli that every damn movie from the ‘80s has been remade or is getting remade. As if Hollywood’s penchant for replicating itself wasn’t bad enough, they’ve now bumped up the timeline a bit, and flicks from the ‘90s (like Total Recall) are now fair game. It's inevitable that even more will be remade in the next few years

:nono: The shawshank redemption.. are you kidding me? pluheeze.. That movie should not be touched! judge dredd? really scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

I view that character on "Burn Notice" to be very MacGyver-like. I think he's horrible in that role, and it hurts just looking at that Fiona as the incredible shrinking woman. Now, if it were just Bruce Campbell, Sharon Gless, and one or two more better actors that show might be more interesting.

I agree with my husband in that that main character looks more like he should be selling real estate.

You asked if I like movies and yes I Love them. But I have to agree with Lame! I can't find too many that I really like. I think I was spoiled growing up because I love older movies. I am a horror movie fanatic, but haven't seen one in years that was good enough to give me the chills! Too many bad remakes or tacky sequels. We have a great drive-in that the kids love in the summer, hopefully they will surprise me with something good this year

nice to know there are some more movie freaks here. I am a movie nut. all kinds of movies. love em.

We have a drive in here too. It should be opening any day now. It closes for the winter. Its a blast going to the drive in. The kids love it. We can bring our own food and drinks, pull up some chairs and relax, talk to each other.. it really is so much nicer than going to the theater. and its much cheaper. the kids get in free so it cost us 16.00 for all of us to see 2 movies. its great. cant wait for it to open.. can ya tell.

Yes I can tell, LOL. Ours opened last week and we can see two movies for 7 dollars. With a choice of two seperate fields you get 4 picks. I love it. We take the chairs, radio and food. The boys usually go get stuff from the grill whether I have food or not. Even though my kids are too old to get in free anymore, it's still the best bargain. I'm glad we have one since so many of the drive-ins are gone.
