Christmas cookies - help!

I always bake, and have tried so many recipes, including family favorites, but I need some inspiration this year. I've browsed around the web and get all sorts of cookie countdown emails daily. I just haven't found anything extra-special this year, but I would like to.

Any ideas or favorites? Not looking for recipes, just suggestions...easy answers! TY!

 When I need some cooking or baking inspiration, I usually go thru some of my Cookie cookbooks. I also go thru my recipe box where I have placed recipes throughout the year. If you do Pinterest, I have found many wonderful recipes that people have posted with pictures.

Good ideas, thank you!! :)

I have looked through my favorites, as you said. I guess I am tired of the family favorites and tired of seeing variations of more or less the same holiday cookies.

I think I just found a new one on Epicurious.com which I will try. (I searched the main websites, many of them through sweeps-related email and found so many great-looking cookies.) Part of the problem, as you probably experienced yourself, is that if you bake, people always expect something special...not that I am a great baker, but so many people never tried or don't have the time, so they have the idea that I will always bring something good...and I try to meet the challenge without stressing out, but for myself, I like to keep it always different and interesting.

Anyway - as a cookie monster I still like to hear what other people like, for ideas as well as for fun, so please keep the ideas or favorites coming - thanks!

Sorry can't help. My Mother always made 40 to 60 kinds of candy for Christmas so no cookies.

I do remember coconut macaroons as a change of pace.

I always do the "mix -up"-combine chocolate chip cookie mix and brownie mix. Add whatever you like-nuts, candies, etc. Have fun!

Thanks, Bruce. That's amazing! What a lucky kid you were!! Do you have a sweet tooth today?

I've seen some coconut macaroon recipes for holiday cookies topped with maraschino cherries - look good.

We always do gingerbread cookies and houses every year and just let the little ones decorate them It's a family tradition.. hope that helps :sunny:

Thanks, queetzy. Gingerbread people are fun, a lot of work and mess! I brought the cookies and trimmings to a party last year (for visiting students) and they loved it, it was their first experience. I have never tried the houses (only graham cracker versions). Good idea, thanks!

Thanks, Pmeek!

The reindeer from sixsistersstuff are adorable!

I looked at all 64 of Martha Stewart's and I found a few I may try. The candy stripe cookie sticks look great. I would try them if I knew they would turn out just like the photo. :)

I think I have a plan now for next week's party, and several other ideas for Christmas week baking ---

---Thanks to you and everyone for the ideas---just what I needed - a fresh look! Now I'm inspired!

Have you tried skillet cookies? Not exactly baking but I always make them at Christmas and they are a party pleaser and can be made at the last minute. I have a recipe for chocolate-oatmeal-peanut butter skillet cookies that I can share. Also, Apartment House Cookies are great and can be made ahead of time and frozen. Easy, and an absolute favorite of men.
Neither of these are Christmas themed cookies but are special and scrumptious. Also, Russian Tea Cakes are Christmasy and delicious if you have time and energy. OK, now I'm hungry!!!

I'm hungry too!

Russian Tea Cakes/Mexican Wedding Cakes are one of my favorites. I always make them. :)

I have never tired or even heard of skillet cookies. I will investigate, definitely. They sound good...like cookie pancakes?

Thanks for the new ideas, beedyr!

No...more like candy...sort of lumpy flat, like penuche. You might not find them in books...I never have. I got the recipe from one of my Avon customers about 100 years ago.

Hi again...found a similar recipe on line at bettycrocker.com under the name Chocolate-oatmeal-no bake cookies. It's about twice the recipe but ingredients are right. I didn't check what they used as a skillet...I use a cast iron and remove the cookies by spoonful as quickly as possible as they keep cooking in the hot skillet. Also, don't make them on a rainy day...they don't set up well. They are best on the day you make them. GL, Betty

Thanks for the recipe and the tips. I would definitely cut it in half! I didn't see a picture, but they sound yummy!

After the holidays I hope to buy a cast iron skillet to make fritattas. I have never had one.
