Cheating is ruining my day!!

Need some encouraging words - pretty sure the woman beating me in the contest.everyappliancepart.com contest is cheating.. she goes up 50 votes in a few minutes whenever I make it back into first.. an IT guy showed me she can vote for herself infinitely if she clears her cookies... if she's doing this she'll be impossible to beat. Anyone have experience with this? Any chance they can see that and DQ her? Its heartbreaking to me when I've been doing so well and feel like I was so close until she showed up 5 days ago and creamed me even though I've been getting votes since August...

Yep, it's a voting contest. I only hope that eventually all sponsors will wise up and stop having the general public "vote". They are almost never fair and cheating seems to be happening in every contest. You can only ask the sponsor to check it out, but it is quite possible for a person to honestly get lots of votes in a short time if they have a large group of family and friends. I won't even waste my time on them anymore. Best of luck to you.

I'm of 2 minds on this.

I firmly believe policing is best left up to sponsors/JA's. However, if it was me? I'd be sorely temped to complain to the sponsor if I'd put in so much time and energy.

Sponsors hold these promos with their advertising budget to gain eyeballs, and hopefully, retain/gain customers, so while complaints *might* change the outcome in the short term, the long term damage could result in fewer/less promos by that sponsor/other sponsors.

I've watched sweeping evolve from snail to online, with P.O. boxes being banned because of a few unscrupulous people transitioning from rebates to sweeps, to captcha codes becoming ubiquitous online because of those unscrupulous people using bots to enter themselves with numerous email addys, to the explosion in voting promos being decided by popular vote, instead of being judged by the sponsors/JA's. I watched DELL hold annual Holiday sweeps with tons of wonderful prizes to DELL restricting and focusing {few} promos to targeted demographics, which exclude the majority of sweeping hobbyists.

I predict vote promos will continue, but the judging aspect will change to merit vs. popularity. IMHO, that's how winners should be determined!

Ultimately, you have to decide which is more important to you - playing a good, clean game, and hoping the sponsors/JA's do their job, or {possibly} creating dissension, cynicism, and doubt by reporting your suspicions to the sponsor/JA.

I do NOT envy you your dilemma!!!

JMHO...but I think they (voting contests) are often unfair. And what I found out is a lot of people pay for votes. But I heard that FB had some kind of crack down on that. In any case, when you see votes go up rapidly, I think it is because the person paid for votes in many cases.
