Charmin Win a Mistake

sassypencil -

I didn't know this made the news, tho I looked it up and that was def worth my five minutes. 😁

I remember a similar thing happened a couple years ago when some kind of bookshop mailed out that everyone won a $100 gift card. I think most people would have been pretty understanding if the guy had said something like "Sorry everyone, I messed up here and can't afford to send 1,000 of you $100 since I'm a small, independent business". But instead, he got defensive and went with "I can't believe you're all so gullible to think you won this LoL!!1" instead. Then he basically got review-blasted off the internet. 🤣 The makers of Charmin are some huge conglomerate tho I believe so they wouldn't even have that excuse.

The answer of course is to do what 98% of brand/sweepstakes companies do and contact the winners personally instead of with some auto-form. You think you're gonna save a couple pennies on labor with that till the one time you program "reply all". 😅🤪

I received the two coupons in the mail yesterday for anyone following along. :)
I got my 2 $25 coupons. Went to Target - they scanned and the scan did not match the Charmin Mega 24 ($26.41). But he overrode and gave me the discount, but said "I'll do it once, but not again" So the second coupon and I went to Walmart. At Walmart almost the same thing, except the chasier needed to go to the supervisor, who figured out how to take the discount - again the coupon did not match the Charmin Mega 24. Took 1-1/2 hours to redeem the two coupons. What a fun day.

Mine (Safeway) did require a manager's approval but after I said what the coupon was she was just like "Yeah, that's fine" and it was relatively painless. One's mileage will probably vary depending on their particular store / employee.

But if someone does win the full year's worth hopefully Charmin fixes code if needed or just sends the product... lest that person becomes "The Toilet Paper Guy/Gal" at their local shopping plaza. 😅🤣

I tagged and complained to them directly on FB, and the sweepers there treated me like I was a dog. That I should have "let it go". That I should have given the big coupons (compensation) back. It is SO CRAZY what jealous people will say. Often these were the same sweepers who had won huge prizes repeatedly, and I know for a fact they would not have just "let it go" if they didn't receive it if the sponsor changed their minds. AS far as reading the rules, any decent sponsor should NEVER put in their rules if it is their mistake, they won't make it right, and too bad, too sad. And the person who came up with oopsie poopsie as a "cute" way to tell people they went from a year's supply to a $2 coupon should be fired! So many had told family members excitedly that they had won. I didn't realize a bunch had been told until it had turned into a snake's pit conversation on FB. They are still trashing FELLOW SWEEPERS over it! I have had many hobbies, but this one is where it is hard to find the gold among the fool's gold. It has literally made me sad and ill for days being treated like crap. I am so glad there is a supportive family here who understands the pain, and how hard people work for any wins this year. This was not a tiny company. This company could afford to make it right. With a little publicity, they did. I was NOT the person they interviewed on the news, but I DID tag them on FB. I just feel like justice is never served by putting things under a rug. I have had wins that a sponsor refused to send. The companies get away with it because we are too scared to make a fuss, or we think the prizes will run out, which is hilarious. Even on a bad year, there are a zillion corporations giving away prizes. JMO. I am sure there are many who want to throw me back on the bonfire, but I fight for those who think they don't have a voice. I knew if a big enough stink was made, they would want it to go away. I would not go as far as to try to sue, but any company that pulls that kind of behavior, especially with the glib oopsie poopsie that was a bad late April Fool's joke, should realize that people will think twice before buying the product, or entering a sweepstakes by that company ever again.
email the company
