Blogger contests.....

What's up with all these blogger contests? It seems anyone with a blog now has a contest of some sort. It's like an epidemic of blog contests. And the contests, for the most part, are worthless! Who has the time to post a comment in a blog to win a $5.99 bottle of shampoo? Or some other grocery item that the blog host has decided to use as a prize. :cussing:

The prizes are often donated by sponsors looking for a different approach to give aways then running the sweeps/giveaway themselves. Somtimes they are small businesses that would never have a "promotions" department. You'll notice often times that numerous blogs are giving a way the same small items. People enter them because the chance of winning is larger because less people enter them. As soon as I started entering them I won 2 or 3. Small wins but interesting and definitely a pick me up from a dry spell I've been having.

Many people use blogs (especially through the well known blogger) site. Some are to journal their lives mostly for personal reasons, others want to share with friends and family milestones in their lives, others are trying to share information about something they are knowledgeable. Yes there are a lot of seemingly useless blogs out their but they all serve a purpose for their writers.

I have a blog and am offering a contest right now.

I guess my response would be that before I enter any contest, I evaluate if I want the prize - - - If I don't, I don't enter.

I have learned about a lot of new and/or interesting items by checking out a blog so I guess the advertising value is worth it to the contest sponsors.

By the way - my blog contest is listed in my signature.

:sunny:

But (assuming you use shampoo, I don't have hair so its not useful to me) hat's $5.99 saved to spend at KFC. :) But what do I know, I'd enter for used dirt :sunny:

Many blogs offer some pretty big prizes. Even the big sponsors donate prize packages to blog sites to promote their products.

It doesn't matter to me if the prize offered is big or small as long as I want it and can use it.

Plus, they're not time-consuming to leave a comment like some people think and take less time than filling out a flash form.

I've won quite a number of blogs and really enjoy them. If I don't like the prize, I just skip over it.

That's a great point, I have won some pretty neat stuff from blog contests.
Another point, you usually get your prize in a week or two - I love not having to wait a couple of months!

:sunny: Isn't that what's so great about SA? It lists so many sweeps and contests we can choose which ones we want to enter. There is something for everyone! I'm sure that not everything I enter to win is the same things that the next person is wanting to win. I don't enter for jewelry prizes as I don't need anymore and don't want to pay taxes on something I don't want. That leaves one more chance for someone who is really wanting that diamond ruby necklace.

The best part about the blog sweeps is that they are seperate from the other sweeps just like all the sweeps being seperate. Now you can't beat that.

Good feedback! If anyone wants to try their hand at blogging, look up at the blue tabs. Click the "BLOGS" one to set up your own blog here on SA. And no, you don't need to offer prizes. Not that we'd object if you did. :sunny:

Some blog sweeps are actually ways for the bloggers to earn money. The ones where you have to post a link to where you posted the blog and you have to post the link to where you visited the sponsor pay the bloggers money for each time the sponsor is visited. It's an affiliate link and, depending on the blog, can be profitable.

Personally I won't enter them. They don't have rules, you are displaying your information for the world to see, they are time consuming... To me, it's not worth it for toilet bowl cleaner.

I used to not like blog contests either...but I actually won a bunch of them, then I started my own blog. It is so much fun, and I've met so many nice people. It's just like any other sweep, if you don't like the prizes, you shouldn't enter. Sometimes it's fun to win makeup, lotions, or other stuff. It just depends on what you would like. For some people they may not be be able to afford fun extras and this is a way to get them.

Many companies do donate items for bloggers to review and giveaway. I don't make any money on my blog, but I'm having a blast with it.

The rules for blog contests aren't like normal sweepstakes, they are simple contests, and the blog author sets the rules. I have received every prize I have won (unlike some regular sweeps), and they arrive very quickly. If you're having a slow streak at winning, entering a few blog contests just might a fun way to win something.

The prizes aren't always small either...some are for printers, Keurig coffee makers, purses, iphones, etc. with much better odds.

If you really hate them, then just ignore them!

Exactly my point, Wolfie. And having to post comments each time one enters a blog contest can be time consuming as well. So, I don't usually enter the blogs. There are exceptions, of course. :crazytongue:

It can't be! We have agreed twice in the last week! Will I wake up to find this is only a nightmare?

At the start of these blog contests, there were a handful of webmasters requesting people put their emails in the body of their comment as "xxxxx at xxxxx dot com" to prevent supposedly spam. Of course, that's stupid given that their email is out in the open for anyone to use. I had emailed these webmasters about that, and I'm sure others have as that would prevent me from entering their contests. I haven't seen anyone request doing that in awhile. So, there is no personal information being publically posted; and you can put in just about anything for "name".

I still stand by what I said before. Overall, the majority of them are not time-consuming whatsoever. I spend much more time on sweepstakes with flash entries. I just autofill name and email address and type a few words in comments--DONE! On ones they request you visit a site, I usually only have to do that once given that many give out the same prize and ask the same question. Still, that visit doesn't require much time at all.

I like the blog sweeps and I love that the have their own category. Some days I dont want to mess with them so its perfect. I agree they are time consuming. unlike other sweeps that pretty much have a standard form. name, email, address..etc. and I trust the editors to put in any pertinent info that may be extra on these. and they do.

With the blogs you have to read every single one. some say go here, do this and come back. others say just say I want to win. others say dont say I want to win. its time consuming reading each and every one. Thats why the separate category is great. When I have extra time I can go through them.

I actually don't enter the blogs through this site. They're actually easier to enter from another site, because they give the question asked, if any; and I can glance at it real quick before going to the site.

You might want to check them out again...the prizes are getting bigger and better all the time. Granted, there are still some for a bottle of lotion, make-up, etc. but the odds are very good, and it's still something you didn't have to buy (especially when you win a line of hair care products, or something similar). The "grocery items" you are referring to are more than likely supplied by the company who makes said product, not something the blog author has decided to use.

Right now there are many contests for Magellan GPS's, Keurig coffee makers, vacuums, video games, flip cameras, and much more. I think it's worth a comment to win these. As LDS said it doesn't take long at all, and it's quicker than filling out a flash form. The odds are incredible.
