Beware this dangerous new Facebook scam!

You'd do anything to help a friend or family member in need. Unfortunately, that's exactly what some scammers are counting on.

A troubling new phishing scam is victimizing Facebook users. The bait could look like this:

This trick sends you a direct message from a friend whose account has been hacked. The hackers use your friend's account to ask for help identifying criminals. This image is just one possibility. The message could be vary quite a bit.

Once you click the link to a Tumblr page to view the images, you'll be redirected to a page that looks just like Facebook, except it's a phishing page. There, you could be asked to log on or enter other personal information.

It's always important to be skeptical of friends asking for help on social media out of the blue. Give them a call and ask about it instead. Be careful of clicking links inside emails and direct messages.
