Especially since all I have is a cell phone and I recently changed my number due to telemarketers. I was on the DNC list, but they still called, and as soon as I would start saying "take me off your list", they'd hang up those jerks!! Anywho, I'm super careful now with my new number.
Well, I just have to say that I have found something that is awesome. It's called Google Voice, and you get your own phone number with whatever area code you choose. You can make calls with this #, or have calls forwarded to any phone(s) from this #. It's totally free to make/receive calls in the US, but there's a charge to call international (I'll never have to do so, so that doesn't bother me). Now here are a couple of it's best features...all of your voicemails get automatically transcribed and you can read them online in your inbox!! Kinda like a gmail inbox. It also has a spam feature, so if you do get a telemarketer call, you can place that number in spam and they'll never get through again! Or you can use it to give out to new people you meet just incase, so they don't have your actual cell/home number (but they'd never know). Another neat thing...I have been entering my sweeps with this phone number, and it is set up to forward to my cell. You can either have the # of the caller show up on your phone, OR have your Google Voice # show up. I choose to have my Google Voice # appear, so this way I know this was a call placed to that Google #, and more than likely a call telling me I've won!! (hopefully lol) Also, you can have it set up to forward to any number of phones...as many as you want.
This is so awesome I just had to share with everyone. There are so many cool features, but I just got it so I haven't figured them all out yet. But to anyone you give that # to, they will never know it's not a direct number to your actual phone. There's voicemail, it'll ring on their end just like usual, all the typical stuff. Oh, and after you choose an area code, you can scroll through a list of available #'s to choose from, so you're not stuck with a number you can't remember or don't like.
So if this sounds interesting you should check it out. You have to request an invite from Google, similar to when they first rolled out Gmail, but trust me...it's worth the wait! I'm so excited that I can sweep to my heart's content, and never have to worry about my phone number floating around cyberspace! :sunny: :sunny:
