my dog (dollar billy) has started to chew on his back end above his tail and it's pretty raw,and nasty... ..does anyone have any ideas of what to use on it or to prevent him from chewing, besides a huge vet bill.............i put one of hubbys shirts on him so he couldn't get at it and nibble, but that sucks i have to keep taking it off so he can go out and thats like every 10 minutes..lol..

my niece's dog Bentley does that...I am going to see her tonight at my cousins surprise b-day party and I will ask her what the vet told her to do. He had places all over him ~ he was just sad looking!

Bentley had allergies ~ he was highly allergic to flea bites and changes in weather...they ended up giving him a cortizone shot that helped him greatly...bad thing is that he needs them on a fairly regular basis.

Andrea did say that if you take Dollar Billy in and find out what they think it is that is making him react that you might be able to get the medicine from petmed.com or even somewhere like rural king or Southern States. Bentley had gotten so bad that he was bleeding in places and it was looking infected when she took him in. I don't know that this has helped you any, but I hope maybe it has!

A quick search turned this up:

Stop Your Dog's Destructive Chewing

...Some dogs may also chew themselves - such as obsessively chewing on their paws or limbs. Chewing can be a form of stress relief for dogs. When they are anxious, they find something to chew in order to relieve their anxiety.

One of the most useful things you can do to reduce destructive dog chewing is to provide lots of appropriate items for your dogs to chew
