AFFY?

Can someone please tell me what an AFFY is...hope this isn't a stupid question.

Not a stupid question at all - just sweeps lingo for "affadavit". Sponsors generally don't bother to send them for small prizes. An affadavit is a note from the sponsor that you need to sign and notarize in order to receive a prize, a good, expensive prize!

You can also get them on small prizes. We just had one notarized for a DVD. The IRS requires that sponsors report all prizes $600+. So, you almost always get an affidavit on those. Anything under $600 is at the sponsor's descretion whether or not they want to be responsible for reporting that prize to the IRS. However, a person is on the honor system in reporting "ALL" prizes on their tax return whether or not the sponsor reported it themselves or not and on every prize won despite its value.
