$2500 Grand prize turned down

Crummy, crummy deal. I got a phone call yesterday from a lady with the Dave and Buster's Sweepstakes. She told me that I was the grand prize winner. I was so excited... She explained what the grand prize entailed. (1) private Ronas & Ritas party (the "Party") for one (1) winner and twenty four (24) guests to be held at the Grand Prize Winner's nearest Dave & Buster's location. The Party includes (a) round-trip transportation for twenty-five (25) people from either (i) a predetermined location within twenty-five (25) miles of the Grand Prize Winner's nearest Dave & Buster's location, or (ii) the airport closest to the Grand Prize Winner's nearest Dave & Buster's location, such location to be agreed upon by D&B and Grand Prize Winner; (b) three drink tickets per person, redeemable for one of the following drinks: Corona, Corona Lite, Million Dollar Margarita, or Perfect Patron Margarita; (c) one Ronas & Ritas gift bag per person; (d) one $20 Power Card per person; (e) Fiesta Buffet for twenty five (25) persons. She also said there would be a Tequila rep there doing sampling. The approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $2,500. But then, she explained that the nearest Dave and Buster's to me was in San Jose, California. About 600 miles away from me! :cry: I was so disappointed, I thought that there was one in Portland. So, I had to turn it down. But she said I would get a couple power cards and a goodie bag as consolation prize. At least it's not a total loss. Hopefully, someone else from SA will win this one! And, just wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to SA and all that you do for us sweepers!

OMG... I live 5 minutes from San Jose, California. And actually Dave & Busters in here in Milpitas where I live. They say San Jose because that's more well known. OMG... Can I have your prize? Seriously, that sounds soooo fun.. Are we allowed to do that in a sweeps win?
 
Thats a shame that the locationwas so far away from you.

So sorry to hear that you had to turn down such a spectacular win. Hope you win something even better before too long!!!

That is a shame too bad you coludnt have passed it on but bigger and better things will come your way

Similar story(sort of)...Last year won a private screening of that Jack Black movie (title)? about the guitar pick or something...for 100 people, plus snacks. First of all, at time of entering, I didn't realize the movie was rated R...my son was 12 at the time and I entered for him. No R movies for a while for him (and don't get me started on PG-13, either). Don't think he and I together even KNOW 100 people!
Anyway, value was $2500.00, but I figured taxes on that would be outrageous, so never turned in affy. Didn't get a consolation prize, either, so, hurray for you!! Just keep the faith! Good luck to all! :wave:
 
rebekahthommen - seeing posts like yours is one of the reasons I check the rules & do a search if the site of the win is somewhere I've never heard of/I'm not sure is nearby. See, I will enter for some where the lower tier prizes are what I would love to win, but the GP is a trip or like this prize - something I wouldn't be interested in, so I sometimes worry I'll have to turn down a prize someday too :cry:

However much it stinks, the sponsors were AWESOME to offer you such a wonderful consolation prize!!!

FYI kithara58 - you have to get in contact with the sponsor/JA to let them know you are declining the win & why for them to offer you a consolation prize - but it's up to them if they will or not.

Also, if you guys ever win and know you will have to turn it down? Please let the sponsor/JA know you are declining the win & why so they can re-award the prize - most rules say they will try 3 alternates - if the prize is time sensitive (trips) they need to know ASAP :sunny:
