i turned down one two years ago. it was on the same exact day that we had already booked and paid for a vacation with friends. no cash equivalent and no transferring. it was for an event and had to be taken on those dates

Sometimes I enter one that I don't want the grand prize, but hoping for one of several lesser prizes. I just saw 3 trip prizes last night that are the same dates as my pre-determined Scotland trip. So, those are a no-go. I understand, though, that when you win a grand prize and it just doesn't land right with you and the tax liability is just too great, it's time to cut loose. Congratulations on being selected, though. It's still stimulating to keep entering, keep plowing through.

all mine were for the other prizes, I never enter if there is nothing I want to win or it's not worth the taxes

Just speaking for myself, but sometimes there are smaller 2nd or instant prizes in a sweepstakes that would appeal to someone that has no interest in winning the grand prize.
