Hello and a question about e-mailing lists

Hi Everyone,

I posted a question before but didn't really officially say hello, so "hello"! This seems to be a very supportive, helpful place with lots of nice people. Looking forward to spending some time here when my busy schedule allows. I know extremely little about how to navigate and use forums, and the etiquette involved, so I'm still trying to learn that as well as the art of sweeping. Please bear with me on both accounts.

My current question is about emails and newsletters. I know that some sweepstakes require you to sign up for their mailing/emailing lists as a condition of entry. I think I have read that with most of them you can immediately unsubscribe and some you must stay subscribed, but what if it is not specifically mentioned in the rules?

Part two of the question: I was pretty careful at first with going right back to unsubscribe if the rules allowed, but then was away from the computer and sweeping for a few weeks and now I am swamped with newsletters, etc. I'm hesitant to unsubscribe from any of them as I don't know which sweepstake is affiliated with each but it is very time consuming to go through and delete them all each day. What now?

This actually makes me think of another question, for reference purposes, do I need to keep emails like "we have received your entry" or "welcome to such-and-so, thank you for registering"?

Thanks again for the nice site,

Bonnie

:sunny: Welcome to the wonderful world of sweeping Bonnie. Yes, it can be a little overwhelming in the beginning. Yes, you will get lots of emails and newletters.
The newletter questions is kind of tricky. Some are having the sweeps for subscribers only which is usually mentioned in the rules. If the rules don't mention it, then I would assume that you don't have to subscribe.
I usually go thru my email newletters every couple of months and start unsubscribing. Just because I get tired of deleting them all.
You don't need to keep the emails that are thanking you for your entry or thanks for registering.
Best of luck to you!

You are welcome to post and ask whatever you wish, and if we've already covered it, we'll direct you to the thread/quote the info to answer you. This is not to make you feel bad, it's just efficient. :sunny:

Using newsletters as my search term in the main forum I found:

And here's some good advice:

For most people, sweeping is a hobby, not a full time job. Enter as frequently as you have the time for. While some people try to enter a set number of sweeps a day, that is based on their available time. Find a level that is comfortable for YOU, not somebody else.

As you sweep more, you'll find sites that are easier to enter the multiple sweeps they sponsor. Feel free to stick with a single sponsor to enter 'all' their sweeps quickly vs. hopping around to enter less. A place like StarPulse, Edge Provincetown, GoodReads are easy to enter all their sweeps by only having to enter in your info once. Just be sure not to sign up for newsletters when you enter quickly.

Use a tool like RoboForm to auto fill in forms. Google's toolbar AutoFill isn't bad either.

There is no set time to win something "big". However, if you don't enter, you'll never get something big.... :) If you find some people are winning ALOT, they may just have more time to enter more sweeps, or entering sweeps that less people know about/have entered, or are entering sweeps with more prizes. Just don't win my HGTV Dream House... :)

Percentage of average success is low. If you enter EVERY sweepstakes you find, you'll win, but you won't necessarily want what you win....

Not trying to discourage but everyone's availability to enter is different.

Good luck.

I just started sweeping and I've been unsubscribing from e-mail lists right after I enter and receive the confirmation e-mail but I'm worried that if I unsubscribe that I won't receive an e-mail if I actually win. Should I wait until after the contest ends to unsubscribe or should I be ok if I do it?
