Facebook: don't want my "likes" showing up in Newsfeeds

I hope someone knows the answer to this: I enter a lot of FB sweeps that require me to "like" the sponsor, usually a corporation, and it is often embarrassing when my new "likes" are splashed down all my friends' newsfeeds. I cannot find a link anywhere on FB Help as to how to block this. I guess they assume if you "like" something you want your friends to know. I know how to hide the likes and the corporate posts from appearing on my own Wall, but I just can't seem to get them off the newsfeed that my friends and family see. Since my daughter and I are often online at the same time in the same room, and she's on FB, I know my "likes" show up instantly in my friends' newsfeed, often before I have even finished entering the sweeps!

Can anyone give a suggestion? Much appreciated!

Re: Facebook: don't want my "likes" showing up in Newsfeeds

always select "ONLY ME" when asked who can see the post or activities from these apps if you do not want them to show on friends newsfeeds

:wave:You have probable reached your maximum of 5000 likes and before you can like a new page you have to unlike some. FB has a max of likes 5000 I found that out so you have to unlike some of you older sweeps pages in order to add new ones.

Re: Facebook: don't want my "likes" showing up in Newsfeeds

I try to keep my number of liked pages down I try to clean house every few months. I also refuse to post any company into my feed for free advertising the exception to that rule is if I win something then I will allow a post to my feed. I think if they are willing to send me a prize I will then promote ... :sunny:

If you have timeline on your profile, click your name, and under your cover photo along the top where it shows your About info, there should be a box that says "Likes", the number of Likes for your account should show under it.

You can actually go into your account settings and hide your page likes so they will all be automatically hidden from everyone. That's how I have mine set.

Go to your profile, select "update info" then click on the "About" drop down menu and select "Likes". From there, select "edit" in the right corner, and scroll down to "Other Pages You Like", and from the drop down menu select "only me".

Hope that helps!

http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=227905267225251#How-do-I-unlike-a-Page?

How do I unlike a Page?
You can unlike a Page by taking the following steps:

Find the post in your profile (timeline) that states you like the Page or find a post from the Page in your news feed.
Click the "x" located in the top right hand side of the post.
From the drop-down menu, click "Unlike Page."

You can also navigate to the Page by entering its name into the search bar in the upper right corner, and click the "Unlike" link located on the lower left hand side of the screen.

OR, just add /favorites to the end of your link:

So in TIMELINE:

I find ALL my LIKES by adding /favorites to the end:

Re: Facebook: don't want my "likes" showing up in Newsfeeds

Wish you didn't have to deal with TIMELINE?

I kept the old FB login page bookmarked, so I don't see TIMELINE unless I need/want to!

Ah, I wish I had thought of bookmarking my old pre-timeline log in! I hate timeline! But anyway, thanks to everyone for their advice on how to keep my "likes" private.

TY to admin for:

Might try this. Found it in a Google Search:

How To Block Recent Activity

The other big issue is how news feed stories are published every time you join a group or join a Facebook Page. While Pages that you join will always be public information, you can prevent stories from being generated which notify your friends that you recently became a fan. Unfortunately Facebook has removed the news feed settings from before, however you can still control the visibility of most content by modifying your privacy settings in conjunction with your application settings.

While we published the basic idea behind preventing embarrassing news feed stories in the article “How To Avoid A Facebook Photo Tagging Disaster“, we’ve created a short video to help you understand how to control those events, groups, photos, videos, and pages that generate feed stories. In short, by visiting the application settings page of those applications that are “Allowed to Post”, you can customize which applications, can or cannot post stories to your profile without prompting you first.

For example, if I no longer want my friends to be notified of new Facebook Page that I’ve joined, I can visit the application settings page linked in the last paragraph, and scroll down to where it says “Ads and Pages”. Next, click on “Edit Settings” and in the dialog box which pops up, click on “Additional Permissions”. You can then uncheck the box next to “Publish recent activity” if you don’t want your friends to be notified about new Facebook Pages that you have become a fan of.
