He established the Thomas J Lipton Co.® tea packaging company in Hoboken, New Jersey, pioneering cost-effective packaging and shipping methods. Instead of arriving in crates, loose tea was packed in multiple weight options. Sir Thomas also eliminated the middleman, becoming the first to sell loose tea directly to the masses. Finally, great tea was no longer the exclusive domain of aristocrats.
