A local prophecy even emerged - “The Bacardi company will endure in Cuba as long as the coconut palm lives”. In 1898, on a hot day in Daiquirí, Cuba, American mining engineer Jennings S. Cox invented the BACARDÍ Daiquirí cocktail – a refreshing blend of freshly squeezed lime juice, sugar, ice shavings, and BACARDÍ Superior rum. Two years later, the world’s first Cuba Libre cocktail emerged in Havana, combining BACARDÍ rum and Coca-Cola® with lime to celebrate the end of the Spanish-American War. These cocktails sparked the golden age of mixology, as people fell in love with crafting their own drinks.
